Tecsonic Deck issue.

The deck has a gear issue. It’s quite worn out. Believe this is a common tape deck used in many models. Any leads on where I could find a new gear?
Box in question is a J1 Super Jumbo

Yes, this is the so-called Tanashin Mechanism
You can find it in many different boomboxes - egg type or those with 2 cassettes.
It's best to search in second-hand stores. You'll buy a cheap boombox and have spare parts.

Can you tell us what issues you are having that are pointing to this gear?

The reason I ask is because an issue I had with mine was that it wouldn't stay in play. It would emit a rapid click click click when holding the play button and the auto-stop would engage. With my issue, I found that at some point in time a cassette was loaded and the door was closed without the cassette being lined up with the spindles. If the cassette is not aligned with the deck mechanics when the door is forced closed, it can tweak the metal shaft that the take-up and supply spindles spin on. This causes them to bind and can cause issues with the gears lining up correctly for FF/Rew and Play..

The soluton for me was to slightly bend the spindle shafts back into position. Decks both took off and worked great.

@goodman on the double mechanisms, did Tanashin use a single motor that powers both decks, or did they use 2 separate motors, 1 for each deck? On my Hitachi 3D8, there is 2 motors. But if I recall correctly, on my Hitachi 3D80 which has very similar looking deck mechanism, it has a single motor powering both decks.

These are from my J1. The gear is just worn, tension springs are also a little tired. I’ve shortened the springs and the deck now performs fine but you can hear some gear noise still. These are very low quality decks but still fun to work on. .

It is cheaper and easier to use one motor.
It is more expensive and more complicated to use two motors.
Both options are used in different boomboxes.

I also had a problem with a damaged wheel, which you showed in the first picture.
I recommended you to buy some cheap second-hand boombox and use it as a donor.
Remove the wheel from the donor mechanism and put it on the mechanism of your boombox.
Don't forget to carefully lubricate the wheels.
