Technics SA-C07 or Fisher PH 490

Hi
i just received the technics today & it sounds good & is very heavy
about the same weght as the fisher

i think the fisher has a little more bass then the technics
i'm guessing because it has bigger woofers

i think i might sell one of them but not really sure which one i want to keep

what one you you guys think is better?

they both need new belts for the tape deck
the fisher deck does work but it plays a little slow

technics will play for a few seconds only one reel spins & then stops
& i can hear the music on the tape
how hard is it to change the ones in the technics?

Both units are awesome. rool: I've replaced belts on both but the technics has dual motor deck and the tire is most likely bad for take up reel. It wasn't easy to replace and finding one suitable was hell. Good luck

Isn't the Technics an AC-only boombox? If that is so, I'd pick the Fisher just for portability.

For the most part they are AC only but there are some that can take D cells or a battery pack. They also come in a chocolate brown color.

There was only an external battery pack available when new and unfortunately I've never seen one available. These unis were sold separately. So you had to buy head unit and speakers separate at almost a grand for both

Nope, not external. (Unless you're referencing the fact that an outside piece is needed, the pins are there...)These could be setup much like the FH-7. See the back of this one. These were sold in one of two types at the PX in Europe when I was there as a kid. I also saw them at the Lerche stores while roustabouting in Stuttgart Germany.

One pack was rechargeable the other D-Cells. Either way it was weak knees on batteries much like the FH-7, Studio 1 and others of it's ilk. Either way, don't wait on either to show their face easily. You have a better chance planting rocks and growing concrete flowers.

I'm wondering if the dark one had the battery capability and the silver one did not. Here was back of mine and some paper work I found off S2G and know where in it does it show about battery power except for a separate unit for use with 12v dc using an auto power this is what inside looks like, as you can see not much room...

i took mine apart to clean the dust out of it & it looks like the tape deck is very hard to work on

It's a little difficult but not to bad

& how do you get to the tire
maybe it can be cleaned

Belts are. FRW8.0, FRY2.9, SCY7.0 Tire I'm unsure of but you can see it as its by top motor

When you replace belts lube the flywheel bush bearings with silicon high temp white grease for longevity. Don't just replace belts, but do the flywheel lube and sliding lever section lube.

I read an S2G member's thread that the Techniques sold exclusively in Japan were less power wattage rating AND had the battery pack for portability. The ones sold to the U.S. markets had more power rating but not offered with battery packs. It was one or the other.

And I'm betting like I said the dark ones were with batteries and silver were without

The Technics has much more power than the Fisher, and better quality too IMO.

On the flywheel I thought you were supposed to use extra light oil like sewing machine oil not white grease because the white grease can attracts hairs more and gum up which aint good. ?

I use light weight oil on flywheel bushings and it works great. I use a very thin grease on other moving parts though.
