Hi everyone!

Today I let a cleaning cassette run through after I finally got one but it did not help a lot at all.
I tried it with some cleaning alcohol and no result either. :-/

What other reasons can there be for a muffled sound?

It is only on tape deck 1, tape 2 plays perfectly.

Try adjusting the azimuth angle by simply playing and ever so slightly adjusting the small screw that is accessed via the small hole beneath the deck door. This worked for me on my 777.

Thanks docs!

I see what you mean and I actually think the azimuth angle of the head is not right!
Only problem: No screwdriver to access it  :-/

Yep, all decks do(should) have adusting screws on the head......
THere should be a screw on either side of the head...adjusting 1 of them will adjust azimuth, and adjusting BOTH will adjust head-height.

"head height" needs to be checked, to align the head directly onto the 2 tracks of the cassette....

I just posted a techy PDF in this area, which explains all the above adjustments fairly simply....

hope it helps.
Marty.
