That's a photo of the box, but it's not an 808. The TR 808 is the drum machine backing this track. It was played through the mixing board instead of an actual tape recording. David Byrne just pressed play to make it as if the background drum track was playing from a cassette.

It sort of looks like a Universum brand, but not quite and the knob/vu layout is different....

It's the same box he's holding as he boards a plane in the Boombox Project book. I'll google up some Universum images and see.

I believe it's a JVC/Victor RC-646.
But, take a look at that Red part of the record button. It is different. On pic shows it round, the other, shows the red coming down the side of the button. Also, the one in the radio has a fine tuning knob along the right side. The this Victor lacks one.

The play button is being pressed in the video pic.. That's why it looks different

That's it, the red button discrepancy is cus it's the record button. When only play is pressed, the red stays up. As far as the fine tuning dial, it's hard to see from some angles I guess.
