the doomer has lots o power ,coming from the denon professional audio dca 800 car amplifier with built in cooling fan and high and low pass crossovers ,cerwin vega speakers and sansui woofers.

Will the doomer work on D cells? What about the fan, can it be heard at all? This kenwood is so powerful (140wpc) into 4ohms that I'm not even recommending it for a boombox usage. I mean, it powers my home system just fine with good overhead, which suprised me. If you didn't look to where the speaker wires were going, you couldn't even tell. Installed into a plastic chassis -- I just don't see the chassis survivng long at all.

Hmm. lets see. denon amp is a 6/3 channel amp, 65wpc into 4ohms. How is that hooked up? 3 way tri-amp setup? For a conventional boombox conversion, seems it would be easier/simpler to utilize a standard stereo amp. Custom speaker swaps is probably going to be limited to what can fit into the Aimor case. I'm looking at this from the aspect of a boombox upgrade and not a build from scratch scenario with a focus on making it look as stock as possible.

thanks norm --i sure am listening -- :-D

but i still think that the box --with your superb components -
NEEDS to be solid - custom built wood -

all that power --would turn this cheapo plastic aimor-
into a loud rattle-trap ---

the aimor would vibrate enough--
to make it move --and jump off the table-- :-O

even at careful low volumes --it might not live up to
even 1/10 your expectations :nonono:

my 4 cents :-)

Hee hee. Look, all I really wanted to do was test the "viability" of using a small car amp to "bump up" the BUMP of a boombox. First thing though is to verify that the current consumption would be within reason to make it work on batteries. I don't think any boombox is a boombox if it doesn't at least run on D cells. I now know that between 1.5amps to 2.0 amps of current consumption would make for 1 jammin box. BTW, that translates to an extra 23 to 30 watts in power consumption at the A/C cord.

Hi Floyd-What do you power it with? :hmmm:
Do you carry a small car battery in the other hand or does it have a built in power supply?
Car amps don't last to long without a charge so I'm curious.
I have lots of car audio equipment-I should make a homemade boombox someday!
I love that Doomer-it's scary looking!
Have a great one-GB. :-)

no fan noise at all ,yes its a 6 channel amp only 4 channels being used ,6 channels gives flexibilty 2 and 4 channel amps lack ,i always leave room for add ons and upgrades ,the doomer is not practical in any way ,only shows whats possible if anyone wanted to go that far with a boombox.

Gotcha.

Ira, seemed awfully impressed with that bazooka of a kaboomy. Was just thinking of some solutins to make his dreams come true. So Ira, I looked up the specs of that kaboom and turns out it really isn't all that impressive. It puts out 6wpc for the main speakers. That's puny when compared with the likes of the RC-M70, RC-M90, SK-900, RX-7700, etc. Any of the big boxes, really. The difference is that the kaboom has an extra 20+20 watts for the subwoofers. So in other words, 40 of the 52 watts is dedicated to the subwoofers. It really does help the bass but when you play music with the subwoofers turned all the way down to zero, that 6wpc is plenty. I'm thinking a small 40 wpc amp will give you great performance to power those 8" woofers, yet still provide fairly acceptable power consumption off of D cells. PLUS those 40wpc amps are pretty small -- easy to fit into your big empty Aimor.

so ...........................
am i now looking for a kaboom beater//parts box -- just for the amp ??
or are they factory available ??

No. Buy yourself a good quality 40-50wpc car audio amp. Maybe even a 20wpc version. They use IC's amp modules just like in 99% of the boomboxes out there. Have your "tech guy" just take the signal from your existing pre-amp and pipe it into the car amp. As long as you can find one compact enough to fit, you will be fine. If it won't fit, then you can remove the board from the car amp and it most likely will fit. The only problem will be that the car amp uses an integral case/heat sink so removing the board from the case means you'll need to figure out a way to sink the amp. Understand that the Aimor will have no service manual or schematic available so the easiest way to figure it out is to find out which amp module is currently in your box. From that, you can find the datasheet for that amp which will tell you which pin of the amp is the input. I think that is the simplest way to do this. Hopefully, you can preserve the good looks of the Aimor.

As for buying a beater/parts kaboom -- forget it. Too much money, too hard to reverse engineer. Better to just use the amp in a box and mucho cheaper too.
