Having lived up North, out on the West Coast, and here in the Ol' South, I know that the debate of which constitutes "stuffing" vs "dressing" can lead to a very slippery slope, often ending in name calling and coal in your stocking for Christmas. So let's not even go there.... :nonono:

Instead....share your favorite Thanksgiving traditions...or even better, recipes! I mean brined turkey, deep fried turkey, sweet tater casserole (with or without marshmallows), green bean casserole ...whatchya got?

:hmmm:

Yeah, I said share some recipes, what did you expect when you let a girlie girl in the site :-P

I know we don't celebrate Thanksgiving here (well, my American neighbours and our USAF community will be!) but all I know is like sage and onion or sausagemeat stuffing in my turkey  :surf:

My grandmother used to make the best stuffing! I could eat just that for thanksgiving. I use miss her :'-(

This year, I will be going to my dad's girlfriends house and having Thanksgiving with her family, most of which I have never met before.

So, I'm not sure what they will be cooking, but looking forward to a home cooked meal.

I'm pretty sick of living the bachelor life.... :-/

Lets see....what's for dinner tonight. Cup o Noodle.....Ice cream...or BEER!

I think I'll have all three!

I had about a 3-4 year "tradition" of getting completely tanked with my friends the night before and being too hungover to attend the family Thanksgiving dinner.......by year 3 it became known as "pulling a Greg".

i like homer simpson's idea of turkey stuffed with pork chops  .

You stuff a turkey with a cornish game hen, then stuff a goose with that turkey stuffed with the hen... That's called The BIRD TRIFECTA!

Here's something easy that can make you look really good in front of the killer cookists:

You grab a couple packs of instant pudding, unwhipped heavy whipping cream, and a pre-made graham or cookie crust.

You get your mixer out and use the directions for pie filling on the packages of the pudding, but instead of adding milk, use the unwhipped whipping cream. once that junk is all whipped up, put it in the pie shell, and put it in the fridge for a couple hours. If you're smart, you'll make some fresh whip cream with the left over heavy cream. Just whip it up with a tsp. of vanilla and sugar to taste.

You can also make a cake from a cake mix and use that pie filling junk as the frosting.

TURDUCKEN, typically served with 3 stuffings (oyster, alligator, and sage / sausage) yes, we've had it before.

After almost 5 decades of thanksgiving meals, I would say that the dish I like most, and is occassionally brought over by potlucking guests is bibingka, an asian (philipino, I think) sweet rice cake. I can only eat so much turkey before I get sick of it. But the bibingka.... wow, that I can't get enough of.

I don't know how to make it but you can search for recipes of it online.

:hmmm: :hmmm: :hmmm: interesting. Found some recipes online, but most started out like this:

The traditional way of cooking Bibingka is unique and quite time consuming. The mixture is poured on a clay pot lined with pre-cut banana leaf. A special clay oven known as “Bibingka oven” is needed to bake this rice cake. The clay pot is placed between the layers of the Bibingka oven and lit charcoals (locally known as “uling”) are placed below and above the clay pot to evenly cook the mixture.

:sadno: I like neither unique nor time consuming to be part of my cooking process. I will ask some of my Filipino friend for an easier version.

Actually, the version I liked most was not prepared in the traditional manner. I have seen some that clearly was made out of whole grain rice because you can see the kernels (true traditional). The one I liked most had more of a lemon bar type of texture and was almost certainly made of rice flour..... very chewy. Lightly sweetened, creamy coconutty, milky flavor. I'm gonna just say try a different recipe each year til you find one you like best. I can only eat like a postage stamp sized piece owning to my borderline type-II status. But I wish I could eat a CD sized piece every day.
