Sony Zilbap

Just got this Sony zilbap. Wasn’t sure what it was Going to sound like but I was definitely happy. The cassette deck sounds good too.. this one is in very nice condition.

Be careful when you open it. The front face bottom has to come out before you lift the upper side with the dials.
Easy to damage the woofer cone paper in that process if you some how slide it left or right. The cassette front behind the door will poke through the speaker cone paper.

Ok thanks. I'll let you know if I need to open it up. So far sounds beautiful. Although not as loud as some it has to be one of my best sounding boxes.

I love those 3 marks on the tape reel axles when it turns!
It is a 6 speaker boombox! Sounds very good!

My notes....

Sony CFS 85S

Disassembly:

1. Remove the cassette door. Gently push the door stopper lever inward. After the stopper is disengaged, slide the door gently upward to remove the door.
2. Remove the volume controller and fine tuning knobs and all the sliding knobs.
3. Flip all the function switches to the front.
4. Remove the two black screws hidden underneath the antenna where it is secured in the slots.
5. Remove all the other screws in the back.
6. Let it stand in the upright position and carefully slide the front section from the rear section. The top has to gently lift off to disengage the flip switches
7. Remove the speaker plug from the bottom of the unit.

Belt Replacement:

1. Remove the two screws holding the LED lights display and slide the board to the top.
2. Remove the two screws holding the switch on the right corner and move it to the right.
3. Carefully remove the 4 screws holding the deck assembly to the chassis.
4. Untie the wires on left side to free the deck assembly.
5. Remove the 3 small screws and the small screw holding the plate above the flywheel.
6. Watch how the plunger is aligned to the auto stop mechanism.
7. Carefully move it to the left and take care not to drop the plunger for auto stop.

Big 5mm wide belt when measure with a paper- 12’ circumference
Small square belt- broken belt measured 16.5cm- Buy 16cm (6 and 5/8’) circumference

I have had most of the heavy hitters over the past 30 years and the prices just can't be justified any more imho but it's been great over the years...get much more pleasure using the home hifi these days, not being mobile and all
