hi everyone, there is a sony cfs9900 for sale on ebay that doesn't have a working tape. this is kinda good for me because it will be cheaper and i don't really need a tape (can use that as an excuse to get more boomboxes?). the thing i'm worried about is that one of the speakers has been changed from the cool silver square ones to a standard looking round one. it's cheap but not that cheap when postage is added. seller said thats how he got it so i don't even know what kind of speaker it is. any thoughts or concerns? i'm worried about crappy sound rather than looks...

That picture on the right looks like a coaxial speaker. Does that model come with true APM speakers? If so, I would just walk away from that auction as finding replacement APM speakers will be a difficult task.

Having mismatched speakers left/right will definitely affect the sound. No matter it sounds good or bad, it will be mismatched sound left/right and worse yet, if the impedance is mismatched, then the SPL will be affected as well.

I have a CFS-9000 with a good pair of APM speakers. No handles and no-working cassette. But it does sound great. If you are interested, PM me an offer.

Wow that one is quite ugly without the square speaker. My significant other wouldn't allow that one in the house if I bought it.

I have a spare pair of 9900 speakers with intact drivers all round.
These are genuine APM woofers for the bass, the original treble is a soft dome tweeter.

This guy on ebay sells lots of boxes, 9900 is a great box but the tape deck is a notoriously difficullt fix....

Hey Stu, nice one winning that Sony! I got scared off by those mismatched speakers and didn't know how much it would cost to get a replacement. I instead focused all my attention on another box on ebay that i wanted more and won that instead. Hows the Sony sounding? Are you going to get a new speaker for the left side? I'd love to see some pic's up in collections once its all done and cleaned up

Hi I would love to say that I am enjoying the sony but it has not turned up yet... I am a little worried that I have been ripped off . I have organised some replacement speakers from America. I hope the stereo turns up, otherwise I will have speakers and nothing to do with them. If it turns up, I will put some photos on here as I am planning to refurbish it as I work in an electronics repair place and have access to parts and technical assistance.

i think that seller has sold quite a lot of stuff so i wouldn't worry about it, might just be slow if you paid thru paypal then you should be covered anyway. may i ask how much the speakers were?

Hi Guys, has anyone here repaired one of these before? i found one infront of someones house in a pile of rubbish! I really love this unit and want to get it into working condition. Im struggling to even open up the main unit.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
