I added a Sony CFS-700 to my collection yesterday----also known as a Transound?
Looks wise I like it, strangely for me--it is sort of like an 80's designer version of the boombox of the future....
001.JPG

It is in really good physical shape--the deck heads and interior deck surround was pretty filthy---but after a clean up the interior deck and heads it operates fine---it has base boost--as well as independent bass-treble sliders...and it has way more volume than I ever expected.

It has a built in metal stand for the unit--and the thing is heavy--especially when loaded with 8 D-cells.
It has a function where it automatically reads the level of tape you are playing-- normal-Cr02-or metal---and adjusts the deck on it's own---the tilting speakers are actually pretty cool---
The strangest thing is that this box sounds way, way, way better outdoors than indoors?? It is honestly my best outdoor sounding boombox--can't figure that out usually my ears find the opposite with most boxes--better indoors as compared to outside--

Overall the sound is very rich--it holds it's own bass wise-not a disappointment in that area although it is not a rumbler--the overall sound is very full and very pleasant for a boombox from space.

Now that's my kind of radio..so different! I know what you mean about sounding better outdoors, I have a JVC with the same size speakers that make you forget you have a mini playing..

Interesting box, do those speakers actually move or are they fixed. If fixed I wander why that angle.

Is this unit going to sit on the same shelf as your old valve radio and Superscope :-)

The speakers move they can rotate up 45 degrees while attached to the main unit--they also are detachable---I haven't figured out how to detach them yet tho--
Each speaker has a small storage area in the rear for a connection wire/plug--apparently when the speakers are locked to the main unit sound is passed to them by the locking connection but when detached from the main unit they require the plug in connection to operate--?

Would be kind of strange to mix the superscope and this one together---sort of a back to the future thing going on--but---
I've got this unit on my screened in back porch at the moment---since it sounds so good outside.....

It looks like an outdoor kinda blaster. Kinda like a job site radio. I like those adjustable speakers ;-) Time to piss off the neighbors!

Interesting box - congrats!

I think that Transound was a TM for a number of Sony models for the US market.
Like this CFS-88L.
