i stopped at my local goodwill tonight and they have a set of Sony APM-690 200W 8ohm sware speakers in the cabinets. With $100 on the price tag, I couldn't take a gamble to buy to re-sell.

What is the word on these square speaker setups? They have some pretty good reviews on different forums, but there aren't any out there for sale.

Let me know quick so if I have to go back and buy them I have time!

$100 is chump change, so if the surrounds are OK, I'd scoop them up even if audio elitists poo-poo them

The surrounds are great and the woofers have no "scratchyness" if you move them in and out. No way to test them otherwise until I buy and bring them home :-/ .

They are really a cool looking speaker  ......

waiting for more replys.....

if they have spring terminals on the back - pass them by
if they "ring" when you knock them on the side with your knuckle - pass them by
if your missus will whack you for bringing home "more crap" - pass them by

if they feel solid - over 12 kilos - get them
if they have binding posts - and you can haggle on asking price - get them
if you need a new pair of speakers - get them

Stuff doesn't last long there. Even for $100, they were gone in just a few hours......

I didn't need them, so hopefully they aren't being used as Pinatas right now

I had an APM learning experience over the summer.
I picked up a pair of APM-270X's with stands that I found at the thrift for $25 so I started doing some research. It turns out the pair I bought only had two round back APM front drivers and one larger passive APM. They were cheeeeap in every way and really nothing more than budget APM looking speakers so I sold them at a garage sale, these look like they are built the same except the large driver is real and not passive. The speakers I had didn't sound bad but they were definitely not up to the task of an accurate and powerful sound.

For the price of the ones you found I don't think you missed out but if you ever find the real APM's for a $100 snap them up quickly.
