I believe Meguiar's Gold Class Brushes are no more available in US or UK now.

I was so stupid not to buy two of those when I bought one.

They really do a fantastic cleaning job on the car without leaving any hairline scratches. Let me know if any of our freinds have one I can buy.

You can detach the handle from the top brush and that makes it so easy to wash the car. It got rubber bumpers on the rim to protect the paint. The gray color you see is the soft rubber bumper.

Like you know sponge traps dirt and debris and act like a mini sand paper on the clear coat.

These brushes loosen it every time you dip it in the car wash soap in the bucket.

I use a plastic squeegee for the glass first before I dry it finally the glass and the rest of the car with 8 micro fiber cloth. I makes sure to wash the microfiber clothes immediately after the car wash seperately and leave it ready for the next time.

This method kept my cars without any hairline scratches on it.

What about clay bars? Are those supposed to be used on new paint, or old?

If you run your hand on the clear coat of the paint you will know if you need a clay bar to use or not. The surface will appear bumby and a little rough and not the sliky soft feel. Always remember to use the lubricant when you use the clay bar. Clay works by removing contaminants that are embedded in the paint finish. They create tiny bumps that interfere with the bonding of the wax and create an uneven reflection. These contaminants include rail dust, industrial fallout, overspray, and brake dust. You might not be able to see them but you can certainly feel them if you lightly rub your fingers over the paint surface. Give it a try. Feel the grit? Then it’s time to clay.

But what about older cars, where there's actually been some destruction of the clear coat. Would a clay bar destroy it even more?

Clay bars won't destroy a thing. It grabs on low molecular weight sticky debris and remove it. It's almost like an eraser for sticky debris on the paint surface but this eraser lifts it along with it.

Nothing can replace a worn out clear coat (surface oxidation and polymer unzipping) other than refinishing it professionally. If there is enough thickness of the cleat coat left you can slightly buff it. Automotive clear coats can vary in thickness. Normally I believe they are 1.8 mils to 2.2 mils in thickness over the base coat ( I need to check it) . Check the film thickness of the paint on an area near the door hinges or any area that was not exposed to UV and outside conditions a lot. Then check the film thickness of the paint. If you see more than 0.5 mil thickness you can buff around 0.2 mils or less to make it smooth.

Remember untrained hands can remove the protective clear coat a lot. The car will look fantastic when you get it and after a while base coat cannot protect it from UV, chemicals, and other ailments that attack the paint and destroy it completely. Always ask the detailer if they check the fim thickness before and after buffing it. If the buffing is uneven that alone can pose a big problem.

If it is that old I would slightly buff it and wax it. For over 25 years I was making polymers that goes into coatings for different applications. I worked on projects to design and formulate coatings for plastic (TPO- Thermoplastic polyolefins) bumpers of cars and interior automotive paints over ABS and other substrates. I was very good at it till 5 yeras back. Now I need to refer my books. I now work on making emulsions and additives that goes in coatings for various end use applications.

Leaving "Off Topic" for any posts that aren't boombox or walkman related... But, it hasn't been moved to there so it must be ok..

Topic title made me think it was about a deleted Ebay ad for a boombox, not a scrubbing brush....
