Hello.
My name is Jeff and I am a longtime lover of large boxes. That's me as a kid with one of my 2 lasonics(the other was the 975). I haven't had either in 15 years. I recently moved to Florida from NYC and am trying to figure out a way to get my 975 back. Also, I am looking for a Intersound J-747S. A friend of mine in NYC had one and I loved it. I had been in to more high end home audio over the years but have recently been spending more and more time outdoors and am getting tired of using the newer boxes. Can you tell me if it is reliable to use e-bay(I am sure it's different from seller to seller). I guess I am just curious how often you guys use it, if at all? Also, I had some questions on modifications. So, yeah...any tips on where to look to buy and if there are any gatherings in Florida, any and all info is greatly appreciated. Sorry if the pic is screwed up. Also, some of your pics are nuts...Can't wait to get a box thumpin

welcome --
lots of us use ebay -

just wait --till you see a 975 listed by a well rated and experienced box seller
--as that will help assure the packing is good enough

We do sometimes gather together, check out the sunshine mix thread.
As for the Lasonics, Pretty common on Ebay, Just reserch your sellers well and
ask lots of questions.

Thanks for the welcome guys. Glad to hear my chances are ok for those. I thought the Lasonics wouldn't be that hard to find. As for the Intersound J-747S, do they crop up at all? Also, how hard is it to find replacement parts...Knobs, cassette doors etc... I know it must vary but I didn't know if there were resources I should look into. Thanks again.

Great to see another Lasonic fan  These pop up on EBay all the time. I own 11 Lasonics including my originals from new TRC931 (1988) and TRC975 (1993) Good luck ;-)

baddboybill,

mmmm...nice. Exciting pics(it's sad what makes us happy sometimes...most people don't understand this) That's even the same time frame I got both of mine...My avatar pic is christmas morning 1987. Then I bought my 975 in 1993. I have looked around the last couple days and found a 975 thats missing a cassette door. I am thinking of trying for it either way, but are there resources to find parts. The only things I find on Lasonics site is are the decals. Any advice(other than keep them in good shape the first time you have them, so you don't have to buy them later in life;)

Welcome!

Besides Ebay feel free to look at local craigslist, flea market and keep an eye on garage sales too. Remember to search for "boombox ghettoblaster" on internet

You never know when you hit the jackpot!

Wish you good luck!

So good to meet another person with my problem.

Some parts can be located especially for the 931's. If you really want a good and complete 975 you can probably hold out a bit. There is usually a couple per week but with tax season here eBay gonna be swarming with buyers/sellers and the 975 can go as high as $1000....Good Luck

K2J...That was and still is my favorite christmas ever. Strangley enough, I still use that bubble dome basketball game(on top of GI Joe stuff) at parties for drinking games...people love it. Wish I still had the GI Joes and the Lasonic though...what a dick, right?

Big welcome Jeff. Eric is right, those old pics are priceless. Yours and Jimmy's Christmas pics do show your true happiness. Those 975 do come up on the bay, etc. Save up some bux to "ensure" you get a minty 975 back. Also, post your request for one on the boards 'BoomBoxes Wanted' section ;-)
