Pretty sure the RC-550 wasn't sold in Australia. I had an uncle who worked at a Hagemeyer from 78 to 84, and I remember it in the catalogue which were a world version. I know I had to import 2 from Germany to make one decent one.
The RC-838 is an interesting one. I was always told it wasn't officially available, however my other uncle acquired a new one, which I think may have been an evaluation sample he bought from my uncle.
There were a lot of weird JVC equipment that wasn't officially carried, but they either arrived in a container as an evaluation unit, or as a mis-pick on an order from Japan.
