Tennessee finally got its first big snow this Winter. We didn't get the 12 inches that some "weather men" were predicting, but it was definitely beautiful and fun. As we were going to bed last night, we could hear the start of the mixed precipitation coming - mostly in the form of sleet.

Well, this morning we found the initial snowfall now has a protective layer of sleet ice almost one inch thick!! It's strong enough to hold 100 pounds before cracking. :-O The girls made a really cool discovery too!

A short back story... I had gone to the grocery store last night to pick up some stuff for dinner. The heat from the engine had started to warm the hood creating a thin layer of water between the hood and the snow. Once the sleet moved in, the extra weight from the sleet caused the layer of snow to shift. However, instead of sliding completely off the engine hood, it froze midway through its journey.

Check out the pictures below.

no ice here man. in fact with only a couple weeks to go one of the olympic venues hills is brown and snowless. so they are trucking in bales of hay and snow from the top of the mountain.

That's more snow and ice than we ever see here in any one day. I actually think I'm might enjoy that once in a while just for something different. :hmmm: :w00t:

When I lived in Colorado Springs as a young lad it was commonplace for cars to be buried! Cool formation from the hood Bobby!

Alright, it's time for an update. The girls and I went out tonight to Logan's Roadhouse for dinner. It's only about 1.5 miles from our house, but we had to go about .75 mile out of our way to keep from going up any hill.

Nothing too bad once you got on a main road, even though it's still a mess. Coming back and pulling in the driveway - the snow/sleet/ice mixture didn't even crack under the weight of my truck!! :-O :-O

I would bet that my camper top has over 200 pounds of ice on it judging how much lower the bed is to the ground. :w00t:

last year we had snow. i mean at one point there was six foot high drifts outside the door. i think that we had close to three feet of snow fall in a very short period of time.
roofs and awnings were collapsing left right and center. its pretty unreal when it snows in a area that is not used to it. all kinds of things collapse and fall to the ground.
the city here basically shuts down when it snows really bad here. i mean a lot of the people here just cannot drive in the snow.

Roman, you have the kind of snow that I like.  Unfortunately, the snow we get in Tennessee usually only lasts for a day or two and then melts away. OR - is mixed with ice (like now) and not very enjoyable.

You should come see Tennessee drivers when it snows.

Haven't been there in the snow but I was there during the summer and got caught in a downpour. It rained so hard the windshield wipers were useless and you could barely see beyond the hood of the car.
