Eric's design. I'm offering them on Shapeways.
https://www.shapeways.com/product/WDYQMYAJ8/sharp-vz-2000-replacement-slider-button-knobs?optionId=126744274&li=shops
The default material chosen was smoothest fine detail plastic. Can save about 10 bucks if you choose fine detail plastic instead and it might turn out Ok with that material, I don't know because I only tried it with the smoothest fine detail plastic which I feel is what these VZ's deserve given that the original knobs have that really fine grooves.

The ones in the photo were shot with a coat of Toyota silver before snapping photo, actual 3D printed knobs. Didn't do any prep work except to clean them with soap and water before photographing with phone camera. A complete set of 10 knobs because let's face it, no matter how closely you match the paint, they aren't gonna be a perfect match to the OG 35 year old paint, texture and finish so it's best to replace the entire set (and sell off the originals). I suspect these will be less brittle than the originals.

Interesting Norm thanks for the info.
Does the price inc shipping for the UK though and would you mark as $10 value?

Dave, you buy direct from Shapeways who prints them & ships to you. In the USA, we buy from shapeways branch which is based in USA. For you, it’ll probably be Eindhoven (Netherlands). I don’t know how that will affect you and what will be shipping & duties & VAT, etc. If you want me involved directly, contact me via PM.

Thanks, understood, with buying in EU at least there won’t be import tax. I’ll let you know.

Dave, as I said you can save $10 just by choosing high detail plastic as opposed to smoothest high detail plastic. I don’t know what is the difference but it may be the same process with some after printing processing too such as bead blasting. That may be a question to ask the shapeways staff. I only put the more expensive plastic material as default because it’s what I used to sample it so it’s what I know.

The shapeways site confuses me in that when choosing the smoothest option at $43.99, the price goes up to $52.79 when added to cart.
That does not include any shipping, that is for the item only. I'd also prefer them pre painted, I take it Shapeways don't offer that?
Any ideas Norm?

I need 5 longer type sliders if anyone has any please?

Dave, I added one set to cart to see, and the price stays the same. I do believe you are seeing the EU/UK special, which is to say the VAT which is charged by and goes directly to your govt. for the priviledge of living there. I did the math and it's 20% overage. Is that the VAT? Oh and check your PM.

Sliders are incoming from Shapeways, will update on thoughts when they arrive.

Full tear down and repair, now 100% working, sliders will finish this off.

There is no doubt about it, vz2000's are a labour of love, blood, sweat and tears.

Lovely though when done properly wouldn't you agree?

Dave, this is what I used, but it's not an exact match to the originals. It's a little brighter. If you replace the whole set, no biggie. You can paint the entire set on the tree first (easier). But there might be the possibility that you may need to make adjustments to the shafts for perfect fit, just fyi. Adding paint to the shafts could affect how they fit, depending on how thick, of course.

BTW, use automotive grade paint, not hardware grade paint. Hardware grade aluminum feels rough and does not wear as well and might have 2 shades available (light or dark or aluminum or silver). Automotive grade comes in all the shades of every car almost ever produced. And you can't clear coat the HW type for added protection because the clear coat will dull the silver/aluminum immediately. That does not seem to be the case with automotive grade silver, which feels better upon application and can be clearcoated too if desired.
