Sharp VZ-2000 Mystery Screw

Hi all -

I found a Sharp VZ-2000 in the trash and it has become my latest project. The radio and the cassette player work fine. Turntable belts disintegrated into tar so it needed a thorough cleaning. Waiting on replacements for all 5 belts. Happy to have discovered this site, as the library has been an invaluable resource.

However, there is this one mystery screw that I can not find in any of the service manuals nor any of the strip down instructions/videos. It goes through the back of the case and has a threaded end that attaches to the actual turntable assembly. I have only one screw, but there are two mounting locations on opposite sides. I believe it could be a transport screw and should have been removed, or I am wrong, and there should be two of them on both sides. Thoughts?

Also, I am missing two of the screws on the front dust cover (part # LX-BZ034BAFSA). Any idea where to source replacements. I could replace all 4 with something similar if need be.

Thanks!

Jon

The screw in the first pic is indeed a screw to hold the turntable stable during shipping .like you said there should be 1 on each side . it's good to have these screws in case you ever have to ship it . you can leave them out otherwise because they can transmit vibrations to the turntable during playback .
I'm getting ready to part out a vz 2000 and it had all 4 of the dust cover screws. These screws are hard to come by .

Thank you!

Here's a list of parts I'm going to need. I have found 3D printed versions of the power button and slider.

Antenna (not the pivot)
1 transport screw
1 large slider
Power button
2 face plate screws
small turntable pulley (picture attached)

Cassette tray - hinges are broken but I have found possible fixes on YouTube.

This is all pending until I receive the turntable belts and see if it actually works.

This unit has some history and I plan to leave it as is with all its blemishes and imperfections. It is covered in stickers of now defunct NYC radio stations.

Hey there -

I back burnered the Sharp VZ-2000 for a few weeks waiting for the belts to come in. Curious if you have begun to part out your donor box yet?

Thanks!

I broke the cassette tray taking the box apart to find out it had been glued before .but I do have the complete working liner tracking gear pulley. As well as the power switch and the screws you need.

Sorry, just getting back around to this now.

Thank you. No large slider by chance? Easy enough to find printed ones I believe.

How much are you asking?
3 screws $15.00
Power switch $15.00
Linear tracking gear $15.00
Plus shipping .
I'll include a new belt for the linear tracking for free.

These parts are not easy to get and I spent good money on this boombox and time taking the box apart to get the parts you need.

Understood. I'm debating about the screws at the moment. Not even sure if the unit works since I needed the pulley. I have all new replacement belts so I don't need any (TY). The radio powers up and plays but the old belts were a gummy mess. What's your preferred payment method?

OK. What form of payment do you prefer?
I use PayPal.
Also I can't ship anything until late next week because I am just too busy with work. By the end of the day I'm too tired to get in my jeep lol.

Ok, no rush. I get back to working on it, something else keeps coming up and it gets back-burnered. Looking more and more like it'll be a winter project! Touch base when you can.
