Sharp VZ-2000 Mystery Screw

Hi all -

I found a Sharp VZ-2000 in the trash and it has become my latest project. The radio and the cassette player work fine. Turntable belts disintegrated into tar so it needed a thorough cleaning. Waiting on replacements for all 5 belts. Happy to have discovered this site, as the library has been an invaluable resource.

However, there is this one mystery screw that I can not find in any of the service manuals nor any of the strip down instructions/videos. It goes through the back of the case and has a threaded end that attaches to the actual turntable assembly. I have only one screw, but there are two mounting locations on opposite sides. I believe it could be a transport screw and should have been removed, or I am wrong, and there should be two of them on both sides. Thoughts?

Also, I am missing two of the screws on the front dust cover (part # LX-BZ034BAFSA). Any idea where to source replacements. I could replace all 4 with something similar if need be.

Thanks!

Jon

The screw in the first pic is indeed a screw to hold the turntable stable during shipping .like you said there should be 1 on each side . it's good to have these screws in case you ever have to ship it . you can leave them out otherwise because they can transmit vibrations to the turntable during playback .
I'm getting ready to part out a vz 2000 and it had all 4 of the dust cover screws. These screws are hard to come by .

Thank you!

Here's a list of parts I'm going to need. I have found 3D printed versions of the power button and slider.

Antenna (not the pivot)
1 transport screw
1 large slider
Power button
2 face plate screws
small turntable pulley (picture attached)

Cassette tray - hinges are broken but I have found possible fixes on YouTube.

This is all pending until I receive the turntable belts and see if it actually works.

This unit has some history and I plan to leave it as is with all its blemishes and imperfections. It is covered in stickers of now defunct NYC radio stations.
