Sharp GF9191 mods

Hi everyone

The GF9191 turned up today. I must say it’s in better condition than I expected and serviced so all working great but I still would like to do a few things to it.

I’d like to update to better speakers if that’s at all possible although obviously there’s no point putting something in that the amp can’t power. I’d also like to put some leds around the speakers and maybe a rechargeable battery.

Can anyone help with how I’d go about this?

I frequently see new boomboxes available with bluetooth and lots of blinky lights and rechargable too. Maybe just buy a new one and leave these old classics alone? Especially a clean one.

I record mixes from my 1210’s to cassette. I can’t play a cassette in a new boombox. well, not with any quality anyway.

I wouldn't know where to start with changing out the speakers but if you'd like to add bluetooth to this beauty I can help with that. It's a completely internal mod that works through the line in.

If you are serious about wanting a quality recording, you'd be far better off recording from your turntables into an actual dedicated cassette deck instead. You don't need a fancy 3-head unit, almost the most basic home tape deck would create a better recording than a 50 year old boombox. As for the blinky lights and other speakers, they won't do anything to improve your recordings, which is what you're saying the purpose is. If you are wanting a flashy setup, this boombox is rather small anyhow for that purpose. Once again, a proper cassette deck, and one of those disco lights things that come to life with music would have a far better impact.

I didn’t say that I record cassettes using the Sharp did I? I use a decent three head cassette deck. I listen to them on the boombox. I also never said ‘blinky lights’ would improve my recordings. That was YOU. I own a music studio..I’m not an idiot.

I’ll make it clear for you as you seem to want to be hostile. I RECORD onto a Cassette deck. I LISTEN to them on the Sharp. Now unless you can suggest a way I can listen to cassettes on a cheap modern ‘blinky lights’ box with bluetooth that doesn't use a Tenashin mechanism please stop with the hostility; I came here for help, not for you to be condescending.

Settle down, nobody’s being hostile here or condescending, only that you seem to interpret it that way. You’re a new member here seeking advice, and you were given an opinion. You don’t have to like it, much less follow it. You also never mentioned other gear involved so it’s not a real stretch to presume you were going to record on it since you specifically mentioned recording from vinyl to cassette, then literally on the next breath mentioned boombox.
