I would advise you not to pay that much. You should rather wait for a GF-777 to pop up at your local ebay.
Anyhow, in my humble opinion the Sharp GF-777 deserves its place among the greatest boomboxes of al time. I've read several rather low opinions in this forum but I've also heard that many GF-777s have deteriorated. I have owned two so far (and still own one, I recently traded the other one for another box) and both put out excellent sound. Very loud, crystal clear and good bass.
And for anyone who wants to hate on these, I dare you to come over, listen to mine and then doubt these boxes ever again :-P

lazanas: I don't have enough posts to access that post.

Zippy: Somewhere I've read a post saying the GF-777 only has good sound until you pump up the volume. Seems like you don't agree?

Yes, I disagree. My GF-777 gets very loud and always sounds great.

About the Chinese sellers: Many members have had their experiences with them and it seems buying boxes from China is a bit like gambling. Sometimes you get a superb and minty boombox, sometimes a partially faulty and sometimes your purchased boombox won't survive the shipping process. Then, sometimes you get a refund or the seller sends you another box and sometimes you don't get anything.
You should think twice before buying from a Chinese seller.

On eBay I found a few Sharp GF-777Z from China. They all look good, but different sellers use the same photos, so I think there must be one person selling under different names.

Are these sellers trustable?

Prices are high, between $999 and $1199. To me this sounds too expensive. Am I right?

Is this a good boombox with a great sound?

I have no first hand experience with these sellers but I saw many of their offerings on eBay. They actually have very reasonable feedback. On this forum people said that xiaosan777168 is a better seller than xd62. The pictures are actually all different. They often seem similar but that's because these sellers sell a lot of these boxes and they usually do the same set of pictures. The descriptions though are always the same (probably because the guys do not speak English). Better looking units are always priced higher so I guess prices do reflect overall state of the box. The prices vary significantly ($300 to $1200) but the higher priced ones usually include shipment price.

Where do they find all these boomboxes? Have those been made in China? Do they have stock over there?

Anyway, after reading all the answers to my question about alternatives to the M70, I will wait for a JVC M70. Although the GF 9696 looks great, too.

I am new to the hobby and these Chinese boxes on eBay helped catch my eye. I think I'll wait to find something in the USA. Thanks for the advice!
