Very dirty, seller didn't describe all the damage, was sold as "untested". Left cassette deck has the "broken pin" issue, 3 back screw posts are broken, speakers are damaged, antenna are both broken, knob missing, switch missing, Tuning knob damaged, right channel soft, dent and crack above tuner dial.

Congratulations.

2 questions:

  • 1. Do you have a link to the auction you won the box from?
    2. How much did you win the box for?

Not only was it "untested", it was listed as "junk"... For $58 (U.S.) you got exactly what you paid for. ;-)

Yes, in fact I got more than I paid for.

Junk is a generic term used in just about every boombox auction on Yahoo Auctions, according to my translator Michiko, it has a general meaning of "second hand, needs repair".

I didn't mean to imply in any way I was dissatisfied with my purchase, I was just pointing out the faults.

Well, I'm glad you're putting all that out there before you get the floods of "sorry to hear that" comments and whatnot that I saw days ago on s2go from when a member there posted the GF-999's he won from Yahoo Japan. At least you're not crying about the money you could've spent on other things like he did.

Ahh yes I read his posts, he came across as very upset about it, mind you it seems the air freight to the UK is very expensive, as well as the gawd awful import duty, which doesn't apply in my wonderful country.

From memory he paid the same as mine, but his air and duty took it to over 250 pounds (about US $400). My total was about half of that.

Yeah, if he thought he was gonna get a Sharp GF-999 in great condition for ¥5000 and then, on top of that, not pay all those fees and whatnot (that import charge does suck tho), he played himself. :dunce:

Personally, I think anyone who complains about the shipping charges from Japan should stick to buying boxes from the eBay in their territory and stay away from Yahoo Japan. Either that or get used to paying upwards of $250 for EMS to wherever you live, depending on the box...

That said, it always pays to know your limitations... Some cats aren't built to buy from Yahoo Japan.

Right on, nice find.
Now it is time to roll up your sleeves because there's almost nothing better than tinkering with your new Boombox on your day off

Cheers OSS :afro:

Excellent score Terry!!

Aside from the weak right channel she looks like most fixes will be very achievable!

She's going to be an excellent project to hone nearly all the skills necessary fro boombox
repair and refurbishment! Just how I like em!!

Good luck! And I hope you post the developments as they happen.
Theres a great pool of knowledge on here to help you along the way too.

Rock On.
