the speakers only need painting because they look too bright because the grills are missing,before you paint the speakers,just try putting the grills back on,then post up some pics first.if they look good just leave them as they are,painting the speakers aswell might be going a bit too far and possibly spoil it.

Possibly one of the most beautiful boomboxes I've seen along with the TRC-931 :-O .

In fact I bought myself one so I can repaint it in some dope colour.
I will send you a message later asking just how you did it :-D

I think its crazy even though we don't know each other and are on opposite sides of the globe, that we both choose red to paint out 9000s!
I did mine in candy apple red the 1st week I bought it, back in 2004.. (from the original owner) :-D
