Hey all, former member of Stereo2Go here, posting for the first time on Boomboxery. I've owned my Sharp GF-777z for several years now and have always been disappointed with the sound while playing tapes. It's muffled and not clear, even when turning up the treble all the way. Just kind of always sounds deadened and uninspiring. I've cleaned the tape paths myself many times and even recently had a professional maintenance tune-up done on it. It still sounds the same, no matter the cassette I play, even after explaining the problem to him. Radio sounds normal and clear. Is this just the way they were built? Has anyone else noticed this about the tape decks? Thanks!

It could be something as simple as the heads are worn. If they have been cleaned and demagnetized, the sound should improve. Only other thing would be to adjust the azimuth of the head until it sounds good to your ears.

These boxes are finicky with the alignment of the inner chassis with the front case . it can throw off the azimuth of the alignment with the cassette.
