Shady eBay Practices

I tell ya...eBay sellers are slick. They post an item with no reserve to test the waters. Wait and see what people bid it up to. Then during the last few minutes of the sale they run the bid up to an amount no one is going to pay using another one of their accounts to determine what the maximum "real" auto bid is. After they win their own item amd pay themselves, they relist the item starting at that amount (maybe 25 dollars more) with at buy it now or make offer option. Apparently the sellers fees aren't high enough to discourage this.

I hate (along with others) being used to determine a boxes value. Ebay isn't an auction anymore. Too many ways for sellers to pull one over on you.

LOL they also lose 20-22% in fees for nothing and provide shipping and tracking to themselves (including sales tax in 34 states now). Not to mention that ebay bans for doing this crap...

Not to talk crap about any charities, but I'm a full believer that Shopgoodwill.com (auction site) does this shill bidding BS.

eBay people are a reflection of the range of people you see in communities around the world. In other words, there will always be people of low moral character and some are downright scammers out to steal as much as possible from anyone and everyone. But there are good people too. You can't do anything about it, so just ignore the bad ones and move on. You don't want to obsess about any of these cretins and end up getting stuck in your life, unable to move pass them and their behavior.

I agree Norm. I'm not going to get stuck on this. Life is too short and...It's the Holidays :-) On a positive note, I can honestly say that I have gotten a few decent deals on eBay in the past from honest sellers. However, I much prefer purchasing from members here for sure. I have had better luck doing this.

I guess things could be a lot worse on the flip side of the coin for eBay sellers. I have heard of people who have purchased a working box from an honest seller. The buyer currently has one which doesn't work. They swap working/broken parts between the two, then open an eBay claim for non working item or not as described. They get their money back 100% of the time (and get a working box out of it) while the seller gets back a broken item in place of what once was a working box and to add insult to injury, has to return the money to the buyer.

That is waaaay worse IMO. I think I would flip on that one. They'd have to find a way off the planet to save 'em.

My wife would like for me to part with a few boxes. I have a few that I wouldn't mind selling except I prefer face to face and cash. I would rather sell my boxes in person. I can't risk that situation above.

Yep, I‘ve got some really nice boxes that I’d like to sell but to risk selling a great box to a parts stealing scammer would be a heart breaker for sure - particularly if it’s a box you’ve spent a lot of time putting right.

The majority of humans have shite for ethics. Look at the scum that's inhabiting DC these days. And those are supposed to be "public servants". Serving themselves is more like it.

Well Reli, that’s a dark outlook of the human race. However I do agree about DC. Power has a way of corrupting. Even the most solid melts to slime when they endeavor to cling to that power.

To some degree, but not every administration is the same.

Up until maybe 10years ago I bought and traded my hi-end at Audiogon: but since then eBay fixed their policies and my latest upgrades were from eBay... Surprisingly, last year I got scammed by Audiogon very respectable user, the virus of dishonesty is spreading...

I used to do pretty good on Audiogon but that was 10 years ago, haven't bought or sold anything on that site since then. I had a few local guys that I got good deals from and could pick up the items in person, the safest way to go but not usually an option.

Thanks Floyd this is the first time I've had the feeling to login in a long time, I guess it was just burn out that was started with a heavy work schedule when I stopped posting. I don't want to sidetrack the post so I'll leave it at that.
