This was my '85 CJ-7. This picture is in Orlando, FL in 1999, loading up the beers for a trip to Cocoa.

img001.jpg

I ran into an old friend that I hadn't seen in several years and he mentioned that trip to Cocoa. The memories came rushing back. I sold that Jeep in 2003 after moving back to New England because I needed something a little more practicle (warmer) for the winters. Not a day goes by that I don't wish someone would punch me for letting it go.
How cool would this thing look with the C-100 in the back seat?
Anyone ever sell a vehicle that they really should have hung on to?

Yeah I had one of those kind of deals. I brought a 1999 toredor red SVT Contour back from the dead. Blown motor, bad transmission, and left sitting for almost 3 years. Only sold it because I had $1500 into it and a guy wanted it so bad I sold it for $6300. But, a year after he called me up asking if I wanted to buy it back! My brother ended up buying it so I still get to see it from time to time. Ill post pics later.

I sold it in 1991 to a guy who swore me blind he was wanting to restore the car, but he took it to the oval and it ended its days in a destruction derby.

What is that john, is it an A60.
I had a Mk 1, 2 door Cortina back in about 91ish. Due to a series of events beyound my control i ended up swapping it for a mk2 Escort.

I havnt even got a pic, Biggest motoring regret by miles

Same shell as the A60, this one was the Morris Oxford series six version. Such a solid car as it had never been out of Bristol until I travelled there to buy it. They don't use salt on the roads but they tend to drive too close to each other so although it had no rust, it also had several areas of other cars' paint on it from contact parking. No dings as the panels on these old Farinas were made from some ridiculously thick steel, just loads of other folks' paint!

In the 32 years since I passed my test at 16 on an AP50, I've had more than 70 cars and bikes through my hands, only one was a Ford. That was a '68 MK2 Cortina again from an area that doesn't use salt so not a rotten example but it was a 1300 and its engine was very worn, not that it would have mattered because the diff was so noisy it was painful at anything over 70mph anyway. I could have bought a good engine for not a lot of cash but I gave up the Ford and used the cash to buy another BMC Farina bodied car, a grey A60 which was stolen from outside my house when I lived down in Aldershot so no prizes for guessing what happened to that one, a rare Diesel version that cost me over a week's wages and that was a lot for a Farina at the time. It was still the green one that I missed the most though but, because it was so solid and reliable. I'd have another in a heartbeat which - sadly - was where most of the good ones ended up! ;-)

I'm on the hunt.
I don't have a lot of cash to work with, but with patience and a boss with very deep pockets I'm pretty confident I can secure one by summer's end. I'm not that concerned with seasonal driving, as I have several company vehicles at my disposal. I very rarely drive my own car, which is the same car I've had since I sold that CJ-7 ten years ago. It's just time.
I'd keep the car, but I guess you'd have to live here to really feel the impact of MA insurance and taxes.
BTW, the only way to kill a Saturn SLII w/ 1.8L DOHC, 5-speed manual is to drive it into a volcano. Seriously, the car won't die! I don't even think the AC system has been charged since '01 and it's ice cold.

My list of some of the cars I have sold and wish I still had....

1964 Chevelle Malibu SS
1959 Impala w/409 6 pack 4 speed
1978 MGB
1978 MG Midget
1971 Can Am Race Car
1971 F-250 4x4

But the one that hurts the most....My mom had a 1972 Corvette Stingray, 350 cid 350 hp, automatic, power everything, AC, T-tops, removable back window. She drove it while I was in high school and then about 10 years after. Then it sat for another 15 years in the back yard and turned to junk. I asked her hundreds of times for the car. Then I finally had the money to buy it outright and she refused to sell it to me! She told me I would get hurt in it (So I bought the Ferrari instead) She ended up selling it to a friend of mine for $6,000. It needed everything. My friend is a professional car restorer and he wanted it for his personal car. I knew it would be in good hands. He has since rebuilt the car. I saw it last year. It's beautiful. The interior is original, but it has been repainted, all the chrome done. Strange story, my dad had an engine that came from a truck my brother owned. Some HiPo 350. When he wanted to sell the engine I contacted the guy with the Vette, he bought it and put it in the Vette. He built it up to 400 HP and put in a 4 speed automatic with overdrive. The original engine and trans are still with the car. I told him if he ever wants to sell it to call me....so far, the phone has not rung.

Chris, Love the canary yellow color, it turned out fantastic
Cool story, My mom always wanted the car yellow, that yellow! She managed to save enough money to get the rally wheels painted, but never got the whole car done.

After my friend bought the car, his wife saw the wheels and said "I want to paint the car that color" and it ended up being painted the yellow my mom wanted.

I visited my mom last year in Illinois. I had the side profile picture printed large and had it framed with her old license plate "VET 4 ME" in the frame. Needless to say, she cried!
