The Sony 99 is all business. BIG speakers to get the job done! These are very impressive radios for sure!

YES, Adrian took his Helix to the meet. They are easy on the eyes that's for sure :-D

I'll tell ya, I will be posting a full thread on the 25+ hours I just put into Adrian's radio.

I'm not going to BS you and say these are anything but what they are. They suffer from the typical issues this era radio always has. Low build quality, cheap creaky plastic cases, low end electronic components...

BUT...

Since I like to swim up river, I had to go for it and see if something could be done about all that.

And answer in short is...YES!

First, they have power ! ! ! That's not a problem. The problem is, they came with pizzo tweeters , they rattle so hard that the case creates audible frequencies that get into the sound spectrum and create static.

HOWEVER...

Once those issues are worked out, this thing is a Beast :frankenstein:

Adrian is coming over tonight to pick it, he has no idea how it feels or sounds and I'm sure he will be as blown away as I am at the out come. I have a lot of work to do to get mine up to the level of his. More to come on that, in another thread.

I'll tell ya, Peter (Fresh Produce) has shown me the way of the Sony. These 99's are so friggen powerful. No Loudness button needed. Epic build quality and heavy as hell. I don't know what it weighs, but even without batteries, this thing weighs a TON!

I think i might "Dynomat" all my "el cheapo" big black boomers this winter, but then again...i don't mind that "rattle/creaky" noise too much when the music is playing
