Thanks guys! :-D

I bought a non-working 8600RM and just spent a LOOOOONG time with contact cleaner and fiddled with every switch and pot. It came to life after about a solid hour. Then I changed the transformer for a 240V one from a local electronics dealer. Very easy and only $12
Now it runs beautifully.
I would try that out before spoiling a silver one just as a donor box. The silver is gorgeous. For me anyway
I agree, the silver is a beauty too and I hate to render mine inoperable. But the maroon unit seems to have a bigger problem than just dirty contacts, the only sound that comes out is a very loud pulsing buzz. I'm going to see what I can do to get it back to life before I sacrifice the guts from the silver, so fingers crossed.

Be careful operating that one on 120V. Highly suggest retrofitting the Power Supply on this one. The 8600 isn't really the same as the 8600RM though, right?

Actually the donor box I have is also an 8600RM so I'll just be putting the front end of this straight on to that one. But since that one is also 100V, what do I need to know to do a power supply retrofit? Any advice or suggestions are welcome. Thanks!

Buy a 120v to 100v converter then you can keep original ;-)

Good suggestion Bill! I always use a 120 to 100V step down transformer and use it for my 100V boxes.
That is what I do all the time. And stick a note not to connect directly to 120V. It is easy to forget about the 100V.

These are the only photos I've seen of the blue model, kind of hidden there in the background. The photos came from this link: {C}http://www.dug-factory.com/%E5%85%A5%E8 ... %E6%B3%81/{C}

I Really link the blue version, but the red is really cool as well.

One of my personal favorites -- the red Perdisco (Hitachi) TRK-8600RM. I believe these were only sold in Japan. There's also a blue model, which I'd like to acquire too.

This one is in excellent cosmetic condition, the only real exterior problem is the pitting on the handle chrome. It's got some power issues -- no sound at all -- but I have a working silver 8600 that I'm going to use as a donor to get this one in perfect condition.

Sorry for the crap iPhone pics, I hope to get some nicer shots soon.
