Ira, I've been to Miami plenty.... and IMHO most of the radio stations down there sound much like that video. :nonono:

I have a two part reply to this

FIRST
Yep, Music today sucks and the people who make it today suck! CASE IN POINT. My band has been working on a new album with a world renowned record producer (who I will leave nameless, as he should be) at a world class recording studio. At the beginning of this process I specifically told the producer that I did not want the songs SMASHED with too much loudness. Every single song that he gave us is so smashed that at low volume, they sound amazing. If you attempt to turn it up, it distorts and sounds like crap. It doesn't matter what your playing it through. A stock car stereo, a built up hi performance stereo, a boombox or a set of ear buds, its garbage. My point is, the people on the ground floor have more equipment then ever before and they are following a trend that produces crappy music, regardless of how it is written. The Loudness War is KILLING MUSIC!

SECOND
The last time Los Angeles hand any decent radio stations is when classic Rock was current Rock. There are 5 styles of radio station in the LA area. Classic Rock, Classic 80's Pop, Modern Pop, Talk and Hispanic. For me, non of this is listenable and the part that pisses me off the most is, most of the bands that the Classic Rock stations play have put out new albums in the last 10 years and they flat refuse to play them! For 30 years these stations have made a big fat MINT off of beating these songs in to the ground and when the artist comes out with a new song, they refuse to play it and don't pay the artist for their efforts. THANKS LAWYERS! What's insane is, most of the newer albums from these Classic Rock bands are really good, but no one will ever hear them.

I have all but completely boycotted broadcast radio. F classic rock stations, F classic pop stations F modern pop in general and F the people who run them!

(Deep Breath)....ahhhh I feel better :-D

um guys.......I know what u mean, but this is what satellite radio is for........I mean it's kinda like cable tv, you gotta pay to play these days. :-/

And Chris there's gotta be at least one classical and at least one jazz station down there.......At least there was in SD when I lived there.......Granted, the reception aint' that great because it's lower power, but......

Next time tell him not to use any compression, That is what causes that "smashed" sound and kills dynamic range. The thing is, most music is mastered to sound good in earbuds nowadays, not for good soundsystems. :-/

Damn is not that bad at all around here. If we dont count a few really crappy folk radios most of the rest are ok for different tastes. The problem with me is that we use to have 2 station with good electronic music, but one was sold to tv company which made it commercial :thumbsdown: . We use to have live electronic partyies from all round the world , full dj sets and so on on it. Now we have just 1 left. It is a bit more commercial some times , but still ok. But in general we have rock, jazz, classic 80's, ever greens and so radio stations. It looks like in the small countries is easy to transmit lot of stations all round. I should say tho, that im listening on net radios mostly :-D . DI.fm have to offer something always depending on the mood. And thats that i love :yes: .

That's why vinyl and superb cassettes rule!!!! Only some cd's are really
good sounding! :hmmm:
I-Pods,digital-to much compression!! Not good!! :nonono:

I have allot of friends that have satellite radio, but I have 3 cars, I have tons of blasters and I don't want to have to carry that thing around too. I think it's insane that satellite radio can be made profitable and have a HEAVY METAL channel and a HARD CORE HIP HOP channel and yet terrestrial radio can't do either!

BTW, when I said "F modern pop" I mean corporate lawyer created Britney, Gag Gag and the like. If it sells Pepsi :thumbsdown:

And yes, NPR plays classical (Sunday mornings at 6am) and from time to time I might find a channel at 88.2 on the dial that is playing some Jazz, but I WANNA ROCK! :rock: :rock: :rock: :chris920:

You know man, even as "The Artist" these "Suits" and "Heads" F it up and attempt to over ride. I got 19 months into a new record, my 11th album to be exact and it's all throw away because they want to follow the "Trend" and I want to make music and those two have nothing to do with each other. :no:

I have XM radio in my car and listen to it quite frequently. It is much better than standard radio for content and being able to select the exact genre I wish to hear, but Satellite radio also comes with its own shortfalls.

After a couple of weeks of tapping around from station to station I have noticed that most of their playlists are repetitve, too. One of my favorite channels is the "Chill" electronica channel. They play the same Gotan Project, and Banco De Gaia tracks several times a day. Granted, I really like those artists and tracks, but that's getting old, too.

Another thing is the high fidelity aspect of it..... XM broadcasts at roughly 39 kbit/s, and I can really hear the difference in my car (10 speaker system in 2005 Acura RL). And the quality of some of the older music is very poor. For example, if you listen to the classic soul, 80's, or classic rock channels... It really sounds like they are using very poorly ripped MP3's at 32 kbit/s.

XM is clearly opting to offer more channels (at the expense of sacrificing quality) with their limited bandwidth.

It's gotten to the point where I pretty much use XM for sports radio and the news, and either listen to CDs (or data-CDs with 320kps MP3s on them that I ripped from vinyl or CD myself) to listen to music.

:agree: with this topic...I don't listen to fm anymore ..just dont like what i hear same songs same order 19 times a day for 3 months!!! :thumbsdown: and the sound quality is horrible too....also jt is right about sattelite radio I had xm service when it first came out and it was really good...but it did get old real quick.....the sound quality is really lousey on alot not all but what i was tuning into was real crappy :'-( so i decided i did'nt want to pay for the same music i can get for free..so for now im back to cd's ipod or casette :sad:
