Sanyo C4 help. radio good, tape & line in = no go

I was lucky enough to score a sanyo c4 but it seems that it only works on the radio function. when i play a tape or ipod through line in you can see the led meters jumping but you can't hear anything at all. i have tried the obvious things like flicking the function switches rapidly and etc but nothing. does anyone have any further ideas on what it might be exactly?

I've got a C4 too quite some time ago. If I remember correctly my line-in didn't work either Tape input worked though so I plugged my external device in there...

ah ok, let me give that a go and report back. i would still love the cassette to play though.
