This is something I really just stumbled upo this very moment.
I just did a soundcheck with my new BigBen and I have to say I am more than impressed with it. I first tried the tape which plays a little too fast at the moment and was only a little disappointed by the sound. Then when I switched to radio, all my doubts were blown away. Holy Crap! That thing can kick some butt!
But what really sold me was the line in. I picked some nice electro to see how much the woofer can do and how high the tweeters would go.
DAMN! The auto loudness on the volume dial is position excellently! Just when it tries to distort, the loudness goes off and you can crank it up to full without any problems!
All that while the Super woofer and bass are almost at 100%. When I took off the cover to see what the woofer was doing I almost shat myself
. It was bouncing around like crazy!
Still, it sounded really good. The passive sound of that woofer chamber is amazing!
So, this got me wondering and I did a personal ranking of my top three best sounding boxes:
3. Toshi S90
2. BigBen
1. M90
This yet again got me wondering if it is even fair to compare the BigBen to the mighty M90. After all it uses a completely different system to generate bass. Everyone who has ever heard an Aiwa 880 with its amazing passive radiator knows that it also can kick an M90's butt easily. Still, it is abvious those two are not comparable by any matter.
I for my part came to the point that I will give the BigBen its own category. After all it is the only portable one piecer with the attempt of a real subwoofer and subwoofers are just out of range for normal woofers.
However, this seemed interesting enough for me to make a topic for it.
