Been a great summer for home gear pick ups, will post more later along with some little Boombox finds.

Picked up this Sansui 771 @ VV Tuesday for a nice price. Got it home and immediately started cleaning then realized some before pics were due, so some of knobs and Tuner lens got a quick going over before pics.

She seems to operate good so far and letting her out on some Mission 764i's. Only flaw, a couple of lamps are out (that I can see now, crossing fingers) .

There was a guy looking at it when I came in and then he walked away! I didn't even hesitate and picked it up. Went to test it out, like that mattered :-P , it was leaving with me! After testing and seeing it powered up and the tuning meter moved, off I went. When I hit the end of the isle, that guy came back, saw it in my hand and just hung his head .

I ran it with the Missions 764i's listed above and with a set of Paradigm Performance Series bookshelves daringly together, as I like to have it checked/scoped out usually before tying amps to my nicer speakers, but felt confident, and let 'er rip about 1/3 volume in a 22 x 24 room ! Passed the test !

Very nice sound for the era, as a lot of the early-mid 70's Solid state gear is a bit soft or muddy sounding for my liking. Re-cap won't happen anytime soon, but she is gonna clean up Real Good !

Lamps are generally easy enough ( at least I hope on this one :-P ) and will check for LED upgrades to re-do the whole lot if so.

I just love those fantastic illuminated green and orange displays against the black background on those old units, I bought a Sony receiver/amp in the 70's and I still remember the smell when I opened the box. Good find.

(No, don't go there!)

Awsome grab! As the Sansui fan that I am, these are some of the easiest units to service. Relamping won't be a problem.

Hell ya man! They gotta make a kit for the LED mod.

Thanks for the heads up Freddie ! :-) Haven't been in this series before so good to hear.

Those Damn early 80's Pioneers (SX-3800 etc) are a fricken nightmare to get at controls and such, tho lights are a tad easier.

Gotta do it seeing the initial outlay was LOW

Who Me? What , and give you another chance to tsk tsk me? :-P No way! :w00t:

Love the green displays too, My hk 930 being my fave, though my Technics SA-8000 XC is quite the unit to look at.

Sorry, pic stolen from web and looking a bit bluish here however.

I would've snatched that up in a quickness too!
Just found myself a Technics receiver at the thrift a couple days ago for $5! :-)

How I would love to have more space. I would seriously dedicate a room for some vintage 70's HiFi silvers.

Nice score Duckman.

I remember going to a Crazy Eddie store in NYC back then and turned up the volume on a Sansui receiver can't remember the model but this freakin' thing rocked so hard I felt the bass on my chest. The sales guy came running to the room and really got mad me I just smiled at him because I got my fix with some deep bass.

That moment was priceless.

Too Funny, and good on ya!

I sold some gear back in 80-81 and had a guy do the same thing in one of the sound rooms. I walked in and he was cranking the cheap 'House' speakers we had (sea gulls sounded better) and he looked a little nervous thinking he was gonna catch shiat. I didn't say a word, just switched systems to some hk 775 mono blocks into a pair of JBL L-150's and re-styled his hair ! :w00t:

Turned it down after about 30 secs, walked out of the room and said, "if you like it loud, do it right, but it'll cost ya"

He didn't buy anything that day but came back in 10 mins later with a 'rolled up' token of appreciation! ;-)
