Hey peeps. Did a lot of reading over reviews of different smartphones & a lot of people gave good feedback on the S4 sound but wasn't sure if it was the headphones that made them stand out or just that it's a good playback platform.

So I hooked it up to my JVC M70C to try out & here are the results with one of my fav. tracks from the 'Strong Persuader'.

I do like the sound overall & very clean mids/highs

Hmm interesting. I know there is a HUGE difference with my WAAAAY better sounding older HTC one X with beats audio and my wifes new SUCKY sounding samsung S6. Its a night and day difference and this is using the audio out to boombox input. I wouldn't figure it would make such a difference but its huge. Way better sound from my old phone.

I have the S5. I every once in a while use Pandora to a boombox... it's not bad, but I have to have it on full blast to get the input on the box about right.

Where as I use an iPhone 5 for all my music storage and Pandora over wifi. It sounds much better, and I only have to have it at 3/4 volume.

Exactly trippy!! That is something else I forgot, we have to crank the S6 for sound and it has a very weak dynamic range in comparison. Very upsetting but I'm glad to find out before I upgrade my old HTC. The pictures taken with the S6 are incredible though

Can't stand anything Apple. As you can tell from the vid, no issues on the S4 for dynamic range or clarity so I'm happy.

I stream web radio from my laptop, both Note 4 and Note 5 give a bit less sound quality doing the same streaming.

Yeah, I got the iPhone out of an auction car my dad bought that was packed full of power tools, and this was in there. Ive never had a service on it, but with wifi I can use pandora, and loaded it with my music. Free music player.

If you want to get the best sound from your boombox with a portable source nothing beats a hi res audio player. The sound completely blows away any cell phone. I have an LG G4 which has excellent sound when using the Neutron music player but my Fiio X3 destroys it in power and sound. It has a true audio out and sounds fantastic connected to a boombox.

Well, discovered a curious thing about the S4 & it's dynamic range. If you go above 10, the loudness boost is cut by a few db & the signal is more compressed compared to the original material's dynamic range. If you crank it to max(15), you will get a much dirtier signal....video coming soon.

I was using 12 for volume on last video so I'm now testing at volume 9. 8 sounded like the gain was too weak in the bass notes to effectively drive the blaster's pre-amp stage.
