RX-DT75, probable refoam job

Hello all,

Sorry to introduce myself with a request for help! I have just acquired an RX-DT75 from eBay. It was £100 here in the UK - in visually perfect condition and good working order, with the original remote and manual. A bit of a bargain, I thought!

There is just one problem, as soon as I put the volume up to a loud-ish level on any music that has heavy bass there is unpleasant buzzing / rattling, which leads me to think the foam on the woofers is shot. From what little I have seen on YT, these woofers are a bit weird and this may be difficult to fix, but I wanted to tap the wisdom here as to how possible this is (or not), sources of parts etc, if anyone has experience?

I suppose I could return it, but I don't really want to, as I am sort of in love with it even with this fault!

Thanks very much for any thoughts.

I trawled around a bit more. Seems like these speakers can’t readily be re-foamed. But there is a guy on Tumblr who says he was able to replace them with some Monacor SP 45/4. Same size but with screw holes in the wrong place, nonetheless he managed to get them mounted and was pleased with the result. I can source those speakers, wondering whether to buy some and have a go. I am a novice at all this!

I note the Monacors are 4 ohm impedance as against the original speakers at 2.7 ohms. So I guess if I made this change there may be too much bass as these are easier to drive. Though Tumblr guy seemed happy with the sound he got.
