On my continuing mostly unsuccessful journey of buying beat up boxes hoping I can fix them, I have encountered yet another strange issue.

So I have an Rx-5250 I bought as untested. The radio and cassette both work fine, however as you turn the volume up, the left channel has waaay more bass than the left channel. You can actually see the left speaker cone start to move much more aggressively than the right. And honestly its moving too much. If I were to turn it up much more than half I'd likely damage the speaker. This happens on both the radio and cassette. Funny thing is, before it gets to be too much it actually sounds really good.

I also had a thought and tested by playing it with no cassette in the player and as you turn it up you get a sub bass tone, the crazy thing is the more I turn it up, the lower the tone goes... its like a sub frequency generator.

I don't dare turn it up full blast or I think it would blow the speaker...

The pots and record bar have been cleaned...

Anyone ever run into anything like this?

I think it has to do with the volume controller going bad.

Speaker crossover went bad......

Our members will have better suggestions.
