RX 5230

[The Box of Boom]

Yep you might know I picked up this RX 5230F from gumtree. Luckily I was local to the ad and got to meet the seller in person and haggle as it wasn't working

I ended up getting it for $20

I get nothing when its plugged into the mains. With batteries it powers up, the vu's light up and the tape turns but no sound comes out ????

It looks great ! Can't wait to fix it.

Well I see that local sellers still have no idea what constitutes a 'working boombox'!

Good luck with the repairs - hopefully no novices have previously attempted a repair job.

Most likely AC/DC cur off switch needs cleaning for AC to work. As for sound could be a dirty headphone jack. Try headphones out first

The switch is in the female socket for the power cord. Just spray deoxit in the socket and work the plug in and out several times.

Is it really worth the $$ to send it to the other side of the world? Also the risk that a rare bird could be damaged? If Boombox Lover was in Australia I would have already emailed him to ride his pushie around and pick it up.

I am already starting to love this box though, even though I haven't heard it yet ... Just gazed upon his rugged handsomeness.
