Hi, my brother gave me an old Magnavox 306 Boombox and the handle was in 2 pieces and was dirty with paint in it. So I cleaned it up nicely and was all ready to test it out then while I was moving the tuner up it exploded!!! I mean the string broke and a cloud of dust came from the inside!! Never seen anything like it!! I mean bang!!

I knew right away what it was, I opened it up and saw that the string went through a menagerie of pulleys and crap so I de-Stringed it, then took out the spring in the tuner wheel then dialed into a good rock station-pulls stations strongly even with 1/2 an antenna!

Then cleaned up the deck and belts and voila fully working tape deck now and cool emerald green stereo light on this!!

Now I just need to go in one more time to lube the motor and the capstan. Then I’ll put another 1/2 antenna on it or another then if I want to adjust the tuner I’ll just pull the back and adjust, not really that bummed out as it was free and it has a good working tape deck and has lime-in!!

Thanks everyone,I like it and it has power, gets loud even on tape so it’s a keeper! Yes I may try stringing it someday but it’s good for now and yes if you know your area your in I won’t be so blinded in my tuning!!📻😎

Love the look of those - am keeping an eye out for a Philips version over here! One on eBay but way too expensive! Will find one one day
