Restoring a JVC M70 M71 M75 top panel?

After restoring the M71 I just sold off, I realized how annoyed I was to not be able to repaint the entire top panel :annoyed: . So, today with my spare M71 top panel I layed it all out in autocad .


Not sure what good that will do yet but at least I have it .


I did a test of printing onto silver vinyl with our laser jet printer at work. Suprisingly I was able to print on the vinyl, and it was actually resistant to rubbing and getting wet!!! .


This is the layout if anyone wants to see it.

Do you have any printers in the area that is willing to print those on clear or silver? I would buy several sets from you.

Actually Norm, I might be able to print them with the laser printer onto a clear vinyl...... I will check around with the local vinyl shops and see what we can come up with for them to print on some clear or some kind of silver/gray that matches the M70 .

Our laser will do 11x17 paper, so if I can get the sections of the drawing moved closer together, it might fit that paper/vinyl size.

The way that top panel is designed, you can not affix a whole sheet. Those little islands will have to be affixed separately anyhow so placing them closer together for printing will only result in economical use of the vinyl. Be careful. I tried printing on clear pieces before and the plastic melted inside the laser printed causing a huge mess. Perhaps your vinyl is better able to handle the high temperatures of the laser drum....

Anyhow, the only purpose of printing onto a huge sheet would be to aid in alignment of the individual pieces..

Holy cripes, I didn't even think of that lol .


I wasn't able to peel the protective face off the vinyl while keeping the protective back on the sticky side. So I peeled the sticky side off, stuck it on paper, and then remove the protective face. Then ran it through the printer... So it was acutally vinyl stuck on paper that I printed on. Maybe helped keep the heat from f'n everything up .

Can you get them printed on dry transfer sheets so that only the lettering is stuck to the box and no clear sheets etc? That's what I'll be after for my golden girl

They make dry transfer letters and numbers on ebay, but they will be nothing like what you need. This layout I made will not be able to be put on any kind of "dry transfer" setup. Only on vinyl most likely . Still better than nothing .

Hey Joe check this out. This is Adams other 492 that I have worked on and the top aluminum trim was missing. Well Adam found a close match and had it cut so I had glued it on and had Jeannie work her wonder on computer to replicate the wording using my 492. Then we printed up using the clear vinyl decals I use for Conion labels not the best work but blends in pretty good

Not on clear vinyl Plus I'm sure a clear coat could be sprayed over to give it an even better protection
