Hello Everyone,

It's that time again, time to do some mileage with a Boombox in the American Cancer Societies "Relay For Life". If you remember, or have never seen this before, I have been doing this for a few years now (Click here to see past events 2013, 2014).

In short, the Relay For Life is a fund raiser for cancer research. I am part of a relay team that, in the past walked 24 hours straight. I belong to the "Milestones and Memories" team.

This year they have shortened it to 12 hours (not sure why)

How does this all ties in to Boomboxes?

The various teams that do the relay dress up and do their best to make light of a serious situation. The people that are walking at this event have lost someone close to them, that is the reason they are involved. I became involved through a good friend when they asked me for a donation. When I realized it was close by where I lived, I came down to help and have volunteered every year since. Like almost all people, I have had family or friends lost to Cancer.

Since seeing the teams in their crazy outfits, I decided I had to make my own statement and haul a radio the whole time. I am now known as "The Boombox Guy!"

I typically bring a slew of radio's and this year will be no different...

Since last year, I have added some serious heavy hitters to my collection that will be PERFECT for this years event! This year I finally got my J1 fixed (Thanks to Albert at Lasonic and member Miles) so it will be on tap to wow the crowd. I also acquired a Discolite (Blu_Fuz, still need a custom strap for that) which will be great for the night time duties.

But the big hitter will be the Custom Helix I recently built with this event in mind. The whole time I was building this radio, I was thinking of how great it would look at night at this event and I can't wait to blow everyone's mind. As the "Boombox guy" I have tried to raise the bar each year and this will be the pinnacle.

In the past event's I have walked a lot, but not all of the 24 hours (for obvious reasons). But since this is 12 hours, I am going to do my best to walk the whole time, with a blaster! The music will be pumping, the LED's will be dancing and the Custom Helix HX-4700 will be the belle of the ball.

If you feel this to be a worthy use of a Boomboxes, then please make a donation, any amount is welcome all the way down to $1.00.

Ah snap, I forgot about the disco strap you need!
It would be great to have for the event! If not, I'll be carrying it like a baby

Chris that's so cool that you've been doing this for a few years now. I lost one of my aunts to cancer and now my cousins daughter gets friends and family together every year for the Relay For Life in our area. Unfortunatly I couldn't get the day off of work for April 18th to attend :-( But maybe I can be the boombox guy on this side of town Lol. I never thought about taking a blaster! Great idea brother. Have a great time and please share the pics with all of us afterwards!

Thank you guys.

Cancer is the worst leveler of all, we all have had a friend, family member or ARE that family member.

In the end, these things help everyone.

Last year I thought of all you guys, lap after lap, mile after mile. All the stories you share and all the pictures you post. IMHO, this is still one of the best hobbies, with the best people!

If the J1, Helix and Discolite were built to do ANYTHING it was to make the ladies say "OH MY GOD!"

Thank you do much for your donation. I will be out there on the 30th sweating it out, putting in the mileage and shocking on lookers with these massive blasters as well as proudly representing BOOMBOXERY!

Thanks for cheering me on guys!

I almost forgot I needed to Bluetooth mod the Discolite, so I spent today tightening the handle and modding it. So now I am good to go, with all three radio's modded for bluetooth.

^ good to hear you tightened up the handle. I know you were worried about it for this event.
