Anything with a name like that has to be AWESOME!

My CS600 has DSL. I also like the name of Toshiba's version, ESBS.... "EXPAND SUPER BASS SOUND"

The Philips D8614 / D8634 / Magnavox D8623 really come to life when the loudness is switched on, both bass and treble greatly improve. I've never heard such an astonishing difference between loudness on and off before or since.

Aiwa TPR 990, Helix HX-4630, Sansui CP-7...

But when the volume turns above five on TPR990, I turn off the loudness switch, for sound quallity improvements!!!

I think everyone would agree that the purpose of the Loudness function is to provide better bass at low volume, once you get the volume up, you turn off the Loudness and turn up the bass slightly to balance the sound as needed.

Some radio's do this spectacularly and some just flat out suck at it

This little cheapo Emerson has a great Loudness button, but once you start turning up, you have to turn it off quick and pull back the bass, as expected.

I agree 100% with this Chris. Loudness switch is for deep Bass at lower volumes

It seems that some manufacturers really cared about making sure when you threw the loudness switch, something happens. There are just too many "Super Woofer" do Nothing HYPE radios out there that with out actually plugging them in and testing them out, you would never know. If you bought it sealed in a box with the infamous "SUPER JUMBO BIG POWER 200 WATTS MEGA BASS" label on the front, but never plugged it in, as many people did back in the day, then you got screwed!

A collector could easily walk by one of the radios pictured below and grab a larger radio thinking it would over power one of these Toshiba's only to end up having it's Arse Kicked!

To me, THAT'S a success story on Toshiba's part for making that Loudness Switch ROCK....Thanks for sharing guys...always learning on here
