Well, given the recent attention this beast has recieved recently, I'd thought I'd show mine. This baby was quite a surprise once I got her 100%. I highly, HIGHLY, recommend getting one if you can. Now, mind you, this one did not come from a chinese seller. But from a servicemember who was overseas and got it at the exchange. Nevertheless, this one was made in HK (China) not Japan. Doesn't matter, the guts are the same sans tuner setups. Seriously, get one, I kid you not.

And this will shock many, but this thing is ridiculously powerful and sounds, yes, sounds as good a the mighty Studio 1 and will make others blush. The only other one I have that can run with it all the way soundwise is it's older brother, the Sharp GX-300.

Not to mention, the spectrum analyzer is cool too.

Here she is!

Supposedly, my GF-800z has the same power specs but smaller round speakers instead of the square but I concur -- this thing was a huge suprise in almost every way -- a very pleasant kind of way. I was smiling ear/ear when I got her up and running 100%. It is POWERFUL, no question about it. Simply an awesome box -- I'm very suprised that it didn't get more attention but I think it's partialy because (1) it's a 3 piecer and (2) it's rather rare here in the U.S. so not many have had the luxury of listening to one.

I'd highly recommend it to all boombox collectors that want good high quality sound.

GF-800 is just as good as WF-939. AND - GF-800 is made in Japan.
In conclusion, while WF-939 might be good for posers - GF-800 can be had for fraction of its price, and sounds 99% as good.

P.S. Oldskool - just kidding - actually we all envy you :-D

Wow....thanks for sharing.
My WF-939 is still on its way from the Far East....fingers crossed it arrives fully functional and in reasonable condition.
The spectrum analyser does it for me ? The 'KITT' of boomboxes... :-P
Are there other boomboxes with spectrum analysers can someone put a list together ? :-)
As soon as mine WF-939 arrives - will post some pic...keeping my fingers tightly crossed ! ;-)
Cheers, Kidofthe80s

Looking very nice the panny!
But there is only one defizit:
It´s only a 5x analyzer. :-/

The SHARP / HANTOR owns 10x , and this makes really fun.
Anyway, there are too less boxes with it.

Nice one oldy :-) im not sure how you can rate the gx300 up there with the 939 though the 300 is loud but it dosent do much for me.

One question about the 939 though are the decks electronically controlled or just basic push down buttons thanks in advance my friend.

I'll say this about the GX-300H...When properly working, it's a beast. What I would do is check out your EQ sliders (potenometers) as this was what I discovered was the achilles heel in mine. I think ultimately I will have to replace the 100Hz and another. Otherwise, it's what the Germans say it is, a HiFi DIN45000 standard, just like the Studio 1.

Regarding the buttons on the WF-939z, it's electromechanical (soft touch type) switches.

:-D :-D :-D

Sweeet oldy thanx for clarafaying :-) , I dont think there is anything wrong with my gx300 because the guy i bought it of ranted and raved about it saying it was so good, Its just me the m90 raizes its ugly head and is way better imho i think im just set in my ways  regarding the hifi studio that is probbly the only box i have heard where the bass responce is better in ways than the m90, but i still prefure the 90 :-)

My version does not. There are variants out there that do. Mainly the Japanese domestic models and even then only on the record deck. Truth is though, unless you intend to use the decks to make tons of recordings you'd never really need it. Mine sounds fine with tapes and if there is a bit of hiss I use the EQ to adjust accordingly. Fact is, while playing tapes is fun, you'll really enjoy it using the line in and a good mp3 or iPod. And the tuner is pretty good as well. :-D

Freddie brought the 939 up to Tennessee during a visit one time. We hooked it up to power a pair of Sansui SP-5500X speakers. All I can say is - DAMN! The 939 powered those huge speakers as good as any amp I've ever heard. It surprised the hell out of me that a BOOMBOX could put out that much power.

:agree: Ira, I picked one of these up only because it has the spectrum analyzer but was pleasantly surprised, it's a pretty nice smaller box.
