THe only reason I got into collecting Blasters is because of their significance in Hip Hop Culture..
The majority of my collection is Big Blasters.. :breakdance: But, somehow I have grown to appreciate minis as well..
My first boombox purchase was my Sharp GF-9000, before I knew anything about boomers..

my first radio was a sharp gf 8989II and i did everything with my boomer.....I recently got back into radio's ...because i wanted to relive my childhood and go back to something that really made me happy....and let me tell you there is nothing better than listening to old music on a boombox...just like the first time I heard the song. here is me at 10 with it ... :breakdance:

Im hoarding all with good LED level meters :-P . Now even more specific - into dark colored boomers with LEDs. So, not sure which one should i check. Should be something like " im collecting in some specific way" in the poll. Actually really good tread. It is interesting to see the point of view about collecting from different members

I voted the last option. :-D
I like almost everything.
Except Lasonic's and big black boxes.
If I grow bored of a box I try to sell or trade it for something I haven't had before. |-) :hmmm:
I do have a few keepers though....... ;-)

I chose the last one too. Originally I only wanted to colllect big onepiecers. Then I discovered the joys of high end threepiecers and the love of fruity minis.
I think I'm up to about 160 boxes or so, but the ones that bring me the most joy that I used the most are still the big onepiecers. As far as rarity and such goes
I love having rare ones, but pop culture cache is my foremost drive, if I see one in an 80s movie/music video then I want it more.

Rock On.

Originally I got into collecting with one boombox in mind...the M70. After visiting Norm's house and seeing his massive collection and listening to every grail imaginable, my eyes were wide open to the number of great sounding boomboxes I could have in my collection. I now collect with sound as my primary concern and looks second. I focus mostly on 1 piece units because I use my boomboxes outdoors as often as possible...so I buy what I like with nothing specific in mind...other than good sound :-D

I'm only starting out with Boombox collecting (except a period in the 80s when I had a few NIB units).
I'm always on the lookout for nice, 1 piece late 70s, early 80s units with the real chrome control switches/knobs, SS faceplates and at least 2 VU meters!! 8-10D cell size units with Metal tape capability and Line In.
- I'm big on quality Japanese stuff really!

Must have Bass & Treble controls - no Tone knobs!!
Old school baby!!

James... :-)

its fun to have an open mind to any brand any size any type box :-)
:agree: I'm with RBJ. I like the Biggies for "Shock & Awe".... but I'm open to ANY cool ones that sound good. There are cool ones in all sizes and pieces. And like Skippy, if I get tired of one I like to trade for another I haven't owned.

I love vintage audio gear; so my home systems are 70's/early 80's components. Since I stay off eBay and only grab stuff found in the wild; I don't have a huge collection of anything. The good stuff has mostly gone to the collectors at this point, so I can grab pretty much any vintage boombox I see without fear of running out of space. I prefer the heavy late 70's/early early 80's units over the big 'grails' that came a little later on, but I'll pretty much grab any pre-90's box I see. As for the other stereo gear, I got over the 'buy everything I see' phenomenon a long time ago; and I'll now only grab something if it's a better component than something I'm already using.

But yeah, I've got some old Radio Shack gear! :-)
