Actually it is, it can take batteries, but the problem is that you cannot carry it down the street spread open like that. You can fold up the 3 pieces and latch them together, but there aren't any latches that would hold them side by side like his photo.

Yes, the only flaw with the Panasonic RX-A5 is that you can't carry it when it's open as the speakers do not attach to the side of the box. This is a shame because it is such an incredible machine. You can crank the sound to ear-splitting levels and it doesn't distort. The bass is solid. And it looks like a monster with all those speakers and passive radiators arrayed like that. It's one of the few really big boomers to live up to its badass looks.

Somebody smarter than me could probably figure out a way to fix the carrying problem without damaging the original structure of the components. I'd love to see a solution because then the RX-A5 (and the RX-A2) would be perfect. :w00t: :w00t: :w00t:

     i have a helix hx 905 too! that thing is loud
would get it's ass kicked by the a5 though :-D

i would love to take the components out of the a5 and transfer the 3 separate pieces into a single one piece case with partitions for the speaker cabinets.
