Just because it's on the web does not mean an image is in the public domain. Nor does it matter if there is no copyright logo on the image. If that's all it took to subvert a copyright claim then all you would need to do is grab an image, delete the copyright logo and upload it to an image board.
The original photographer always owns the rights to his images unless he has expressly sold them. And even then the rights will eventually revert back to the photographer in some cases. It doesn't matter if the image has been illegally appropriated, he still owns the rights and can sue anyone who uses his image without permission.
