Don't let the size fool ya. My Logitech Z-10 computer speakers have 3" woofers & are ported in back but sound really deep & somehwhat clean for a small 2-way self-powered speaker. It fills my bedroom like its a full sized system & plenty of deep BASS so if that box is ported & uses the latest woofer tech, it may surprise you for its size.

We'll have to see what the reviews tell us, I guess. I wouldn't hop on it just yet, tho. It may be a pretty face with little to back it up, as far as build quality, sound quality, or power.

Defintely waiting to see how it rates...

Am I the only one here who avoids any Philips electronics product?

I've been disappointed every time... apart from a decent toaster and a handful of light bulbs.
The quality of their gear has always felt to me as if it was made for preteen girls.

I wont be running out to get this one either.
Dont get me wrong, it does have that retro look to it but more than likely it will fall really short in the quality department.
IMHO manufacturers are not focused on the very small percentage of people who collect vintage boomboxes.
Lets face it, In order to produce such a product the manufacturer will need to be able to make a pretty big mark up on the product to be lucrative.
If it is only selling for $150.00 US Dollars I can only imagine the quality of the components that are going to go into this product.
So far I have noticed that the very few attempts made to release a modern representation of a "Retro Boombox" have proven to be nothing more than a retro looking let down!
The only manufacturer that has even come remotely close was Lasonic, and even thier product falls really short in terms of quality
when compared to its predecessor (The Mighty TRC-931)
I love Retro boomboxes and I wish that a manufacturer would come out with something substantial but I seriously Doubt it will happen.
On another note, one cannot discredit TDK, Sharp, Altec Lansing or even Pioneer for introducing some pretty incredible products into the marketplace.
I applaud them for putting fourth such an awesome effort to revive the use of portable audio devices in a modern day society that is hung up on mp3 players and earbuds.
Sure, They dont look retro But they are built well and offer many connectivity options for modern digital devices as well as retro analog devices!!
BTW has anyone noticed the increasingly growing headphone and bluetooth speaker market nowadays???? it is incredibly huge!!!! can you guess why???
The Majority of consumers are consuming them Therefore Manufacturers are cashing in on whats "IN" Nowadays.
Most manufacturers are selling headphones for much more money than a quality boombox sells for.
Big companys make product for one reason only!!!!
Big Money :-D

I agree with you Frank, if that radio is $150, then it cost them $15 to make it! If it would have cost them $150 to make it, they would be selling it for $550. Companies like Philips were all absorbed by bigger companies years ago and now they only use the name to get our attention. Philips is owned by Genlyte Group Incorporated. That sounds like a consumer friendly conglomeration!

I'm not holding my breath for any new radios anymore. I know all these modern designs have great sound. But I'm just not in the game for new products. I'm here for the chase and to get the radio's I could only dream of as a kid.

That and I love BLOWING people's minds when they see a vintage blaster and think that maybe it's new and they can go buy one.....That's always funny!

Totally, I love it. I think it blows them away that it's 30 years old and sounds as good as it does.

The sad part is, people's standards have dropped so low in terms of what they accept in sound quality. From music to the device they listen on!

lol. you've obviously not had any of the decent boxes or other great audio gear from the 80's. yes they made some cheap crappy gear but so did a lot of other companies. they also made a lot of high end stuff too,my grail box is the d8614 sound machine from 82 and if you have never heard one and get the chance then I promise you that you'de be blown away :-)
