Panasonic RX DT-690 issues

What?? Hey I took electronics for 2 months, but I never got to rip one of these apart!!! TCC has an on-hands training school that does just that,,, rip em' apart!!!!!!!
I really want to KEEP this component and learn but I only see 2 screws inside the deck drawer itself... hmmm should I take the back off next, ohh The radio still cranks @ 35W! soo can I do this operation while I'm

The detector wouldn’t be in a drawer tray. Most likely inside where the laser is. Probably an optodetector peeks through a hole in the tray and if disc is present, would reflect back. Or perhaps the laser itself sends a detection pulse to see if a disc can be detected. Whatever method, you probably should refer to the service manual if you are serious about trying to fix it. The information about what system is used for disc detection is probably in there. Unfortunately, parts might be the biggest obstacle to keeping these running.
No service manual as this was a free scrap/Ecycle score! 2 years back. CD says error msg. "NO DISC" as there is one inserted after pressing >
Well, in that case, just use as is and if you can’t live with the broken CD player, just chuck it.
I’d suggest finding another box for parts. The CD player top panel can be easily removed and then you can remove the laser assembly as one unit - 4 screws and one ribbon cable from memory.
Not an easy boom box to find now and is an early 1990's ear, and have only found a RX DT 680 model but is $120.00! not as powerful either.
Not as powerful but has stronger low end bass.Shortstuff said:
