Anyone know how to separate the front off the rear casing on one of these? It seems to be hanging up around the tape door. Apparently on some RX;s you're meant to remove the front clear panel off the door in order to get the front casing separated. If that's the case i can't even get the door front off... i release two plastic tabs on the top but there appears to be tabs on the underside as well but i don't know how to get to them.

Anyone done this RX before? I'm in a bind here....any help would be good.

haha yeah he told me about you. We made a deal on the pana after he rejected my initial offer of $50. He said he turned down 80 from you...anyway you were there for a cassette deck or tuner was it? the guy had some cool stuff i ended up getting a S-VHS camera off him too. the cardboard box for the RX is near mint condition couldn't believe it. I've got the pana apart now but haven't gotten to the bottom of what's goin on just yet.

Yeah I got the Pioneer tuner, the JVC HiFi VCR (with Dolby of all things) and the Aiwa Tape Deck.

What did you end up paying? He told me flat he was going to keep it.

Yeah he told me that too on email but then reconsidered after thinking of how much he'd have to go through to get it fixed. I got it for 100 (and threw in the camera for free after originally wanting 20 for it) which could backfire on me if it's got serious issues. The unit is near mint it's ridiculous and after taking it apart i was just admiring how well it was made...real quality gear man. He's leaving for Spain on Tuesday so i guess he just felt like pulling the trigger on letting it go.

Good score.

He wouldn't even show me the Pannie, I did consider offering $100, but he mentioned some issures, still original box....

Yeah, good score, now get her going.

nice one!.. i also had some trouble to open up the 5500 pani.. it had some trouble with the off/radio/aus switch.. but after cleaning the switches from the inside its running nice again ... its a really heavy one but i totally like its classic look and very nice sound.. i got myself an aiwa 660 and an 950 wich have not arrived yet..
the only thing is its not a very bass bombing box but the soundquality on silent to normal level is really amazing

maybe im giving the panasonic a lil paintjob but the platinum power look is really nice ;)
