ok then --its been a few days in between stories --
so i am flattered to have this sort of outcry from none less than
"dr. fatdog"
this one would be better --
except prolly none here have ever even heard of this old rocker-
(unless you are from massachusetts or elderly)
---------------------------------------------------
back around 1980 -- i bought a gorgeous//rare//rare 50's ferrari GT coupe
(had $$$ back then)
the seller --said it needed some valves and valve seats -
if it were ever again to run at spec performance
but -- he showed me some correspondence he had direct
from the ferrari factory in maranello , italy-
THESE PARTS WERE NOT available --
for this super special 2-off !!!!. 2.5 litre 12 cylinder engine :'-( :'-(
and to get about 400 hp from this tiny dispacement --
the parts were extreme close tolerance , intricate , etc etc
the one ray of hope -
is that ferrari sent us the location of the ONE and only 'approved' lathe operator
in the USA that has the talent to re-create their special engine parts.
huge luck for us ---is that his shop was only 40 miles away
the seller (very old gentleman)
told me that this machinist was a quiet type -- never advertised-
educated as an engineer at MIT --
charged only 'peanuts' -- like 1/10 $$ of a normal shop rate
only worked on old ferraris --and only on the ferrari models he liked--
and for owners he liked !!!
wow
it was his passion/hobby to get these running right
and 'the love of the breed'
all i knew other than that --his name was john---and that
his shop was way out on some horse farm -
i called him --
he said YES --he had heard about THIS car -]
and would be glad to help out-
i got a haircut
and bolted out there !!!! like quick
------------------------------
as soon as i get there --its john that EVERYBODY i knew
was a big fan -
john geils was the heavy of the j.geils band
