Two weekends ago I attended a friend's NASCAR Daytona 500 Party. I drove 200 miles to be there and of course I showed up with a Blaster, the Victor M70 EVH to be exact.

I showed up on Saturday (the race was on Sunday) and my buddy had to harass me a little "Always got to have a radio with ya!" followed by "You know, we got stereo's here".

NO PROBLEM! :-)

Saturday night turned into a RAGER! People stopping in, partyin' then leaving with more flowing in....THEN IT HAPPENED....The party moved outside into the drive way and the garage where the pool table is and beyond the reach of the "Plugged in and Bolted Down" home stereo...

NO PROBLEM! :-)

4/5th's of a second later!

BANG! The Music is Rockin', the butt's are wigglin' and someone screams out "Is that a F#$kin' Eddie Van Halen Boombox?" Yes.... :-D Yes it is!

Girls doing shots, guys and girls dancing, the magic is taking place!

The next morning we gear up for the race (hung the hell over) and BANG IT HAPPENS....Rain Delay! 6 hours to be exact!

So, my buddy and I go out back to work on a project he had going of building shelves for his work shed. About 15 minutes goes by and he says...."Yo bro, go grab your boombox and lets have some music out here!"

NO PROBLEM! :-)

At the end of the weekend, he still gave me sh@t about always having a radio, but it was light hearted fun.

Fast forward one week to last weekend (March 1st). The same friend asked me to drive with him from the coast over to the Colorado River to pick up his travel trailer. It was a brutal drive through horrible driving rain, took us 12 hours instead of 5. This time, I did not bring a radio. He never said a word.

We ended up staying with a friend of his, on a 100 acre farm, in the middle of no where, right down the road is the trailer park where he used to stay and where he kept his trailer. He wrangled up all the locals for a big blow out BBQ / Beer Bash and when it was all set up, grill going, people there, beers cracked.....NOTHING! Not even the crickets were singing. People mulling around, girls sitting there bored. My buddy looks at me and says...

"Did you bring a boombox with ya?" I said "Nope".

The so called "Party" dragged on and the people dwindled off and it yawned to an end.

Fast forward to the present...This upcoming weekend my buddy (same guy) and my wife and I are going to the NASCAR race in Las Vegas (hence the reason we needed the trailer). I am in the process of getting all my gear together when I get a text from my buddy that says "Don't Forget Your Boombox!"

NO PROBLEM! :-P

I think he has learned his lesson!

 what a great story! I would kinda get the same reaction whenever I would take my boombox to the skatepark, at first everyone was like who's this guy but after a couple times everyone would get excited to see me! They knew some good music was going to go down! I even had some people hook me up with batteries

Way to teach him a lesson...probably crying in his sleep now realizing just how important these "radios" are.

My dad makes sure I bring one from 'Bama with me every time I come over. Heck I even used on as a preamp during a high school football game in the announce booth. :-D

Hey guys, thanks for the comments. I have to say, it was painful to be at a party with no tunes, but I knew I had to make a statement. This weekend, nascar is going to Rock!

That's what I'm talkin about. They talk sh#t...then they suffer...and so does everyone else. Love it. Deal with it all the time. Cant stand boombox haters...they just dont get it. Great story, Chris.

Great story Chris. I think we all cop crap about our boxes from time to time. I had my RX-C45 at Mount Glorious for a BBQ last Sunday. Everybody was just sitting around not saying much. I fire up the RX, via the Line In and all of a sudden, everybody starts talking and the party has officially started. That background music is just so important to create the 'atmosphere' you need for people to relax and enjoy themselves without the dreaded 'stunned silence' moments.

As weird as it is, I have always thought people prefer to yell a little OVER music. There seems to be something about getting a little louder, cutting loose and being boisterous. Throw in a BEAT and before you know it, butt's start wiggling and beers start flowing and once you got the girls going, the guys will follow.

Home stereo's are great if you're staying home!
But if you're outside partying....FU-GET-ABOUT-IT The Boombox rules supreme!

Camping at Las Vegas Motor Speedway for 4 days for the Nascar race this weekend....Yeah....It will be BOOMBOX all weekend long!
