i just asked a seller in germany if he accepted paypal,He replied with No Way ! Absolutely NOT ! i thought woah man chill out..why are they so against paypal ? i mean, for what they'd lose paying fees, they would gain alot more in bids to cover the loss, plus alot more,i still dont understand why in germany, paypal is'nt mandatory, but the rest of the world, its compulsory..
i know most are reliable and honest but if i bought a box, paid by bank transfere, and it turned up broke or did'nt turn up at all, then what do i do ? you buy a box and pay by bank transfere, all you can do is pray to the lord that you have'been scammed..

They have higher bank fees or something like that. Though I agree it is annoying that most sellers there will not take Paypal.

My frustration with PayPal is that they won't recognize our our Debit VISA Card for my PayPal account because we don't have a routing # to input :annoyed: . We have No Checking account. We have our money electronically deposited onto this card. So even if, say, RedBenJoe PayPal'd $1,000,000. into my account. It would sit there and I couldn't touch it or buy anything with it because they demand a stinking Routing#. :evilmad: As a buyer, I completely understand the need for reducing the risk of getting screwed. But, as for MY dilema, To hell with PayPal!

I think the problem is that Paypal is not very common here, so a lot of the little sellers just dont need a Paypal Account.
If they sell just a few items every month they find enough buyers who are happy to pay by bank transfer or cash on delivery.

You pay up to 50 cents if someone transfers money to your account. However some banks dont charge it at all.
With Paypal you pay 35 cents + 1.9% when paid in Euro or 2.5 - 4% when paid with other currencies.
I guess thats too much for many sellers and when paypal transfers the money to your bank account you might need to pay fees again.

Also we all know that some buyers on ebay like to complain. And Paypal seems to be pretty fast with refunding their money.
I guess a lot of the "Power Sellers" had some bad experiences with Paypal and dont use it no longer...

Personally I wouldn´t buy from a seller outside Germany if he does not offer Paypal.
On the other hand: I try to avoid ebay anyways...

I think one of the main reasons places like Germany and Japan don't have a large amount of Paypal users is because their banking systems are much more organised and less fractured than other countries.

I hear stories from my friends in Japan about how their system works and it boggles my mind as to it's ease of use.

Rock On.

Generally, it's not as convenient when you don't have a checking account but paypal does allow you to access your funds by requesting a check withdrawal which they will mail to you. However, I don't understand why you could not purchase something with paypal balance.

I'm not found of paypal and some of their policies but they are a really popular way to pay or get paid. I paid for a boombox and shipping through paypal and the seller gave me a partial shipping refund. Paypal then took a cut out of the refund? I'm not agreeing with that policy.

That is because Paypal doesn't know what the refund was for, so they treat it like it was a payment for something YOU sold to him.

The seller should have sent the money as a gift or as "payment owed"........Then you wouldn't get anything taken out of it.

It was an eBay auction, he did mark as partial Shipping Refund? Who knows, this policy is probably written in fine print somewhere on paypal site?

Not trying to divert the topic, sorry.

To whoever does'nt like paypal,i am completely with you,i dont like it either but there is positive things about it like buyer protection, plus, its concrete proof that you have paid for something,if a german seller sold me a radio and i paid by bank transfere, then it arrives smashed or does'nt arrive at all,i'm in the crap and its my word against the sellers, but without paypal there is no back up for me and no referee to decide who;s right and who's wrong,so basically paying through bank transfere,if anything goes wrong, the seller can just laugh and give me the finger..

And i know ebay is a bad place to sell stuff because of the high fees and what not,but if say i was selling a 777,i know i would get between £300-£400 on ebay, but if for example,i went to my neighbour or some guy in the street and said "hey buddy, you wanna give me £300 for this"? the guy would pee himself with laughter and say its worth a 10 spot max,if i asked £300 on the street for any box, they would think i'm on some serious drugs,so ebay is the place, well the only place really..

paypal is very uncommon in europe.

I only got my account because of boomboxery. :-P

As an example of how regional paypal is, neither paypal nor ebay have any prevalence in Japan. They use Yahoo.jp and the Bank of Japan for payment
