IMO, the weakest link in all boomboxes are the drivers/speakers. As far as I'm concerned they used no frills. They did not use speakers/drivers from Acoustic Research, klipsh, Boston Acoustics, Polk, JBL, Cerwin Vega, etc. When I open a boombox, that is the one component that I just look at and shake my head. :nonono: Only IMO.

Well I agree with what your saying. But I guess they where just trying to keep costs down. Imagine if they did use speaker brands like the ones you mentioned. How much more would these radios cost because of real speakers. Want to be impressed? Open a TDK radio. They have some nice speakers/woofers in there.

Question is, would the weak-ass 5-7 watt amps used by most boomboxes be able to drive such speakers? Doubt it.

i agree that the cost would have been crazy....but over the week end i did a test on my gf 1000....just had my old turn table repaired and decided to make some new tapes .....well I have to say with an analog signal the box rocked :w00t: :w00t: it never sounded so good neither the radio or i pod ..guess because these are digiital inputs that tend to destort sooner ....but with the turn table i was really able to push it and it was amazing

I hear what you're saying Reli , But at least put a small Jensen Driver, even that would be an improvement.

Yes I agree, I make my own analog tapes on my Nakamichi RX-202 ( I love that deck, it ejects and rotates the cassette ) for my boomers. I can't stand the sound of digital compressed files from MP3s....talk about ear fatigue.
