My girl has all the game systems she grew up with including; NES, Super NES, Nintendo 64, Playstation 1, and Playstation 2.
I keep telling her to sell them off and upgrade to a PS3.
She wont do it. so I have a huge box full of this stuff wasting space. I do have the PS2 hooked up though, I get the occasional need for Gran Turismo or Rock Band every once in a while.

I'd definitely be going the emulation route too, just as Tim says.

There's quite a few handheld devices, like the Dingoo (search ebay) and others that will run most 8 and 16bit games no problem. Dingoo even does Neo-Geo gear for those who want the ultimate sprite based experience.

Short of that, getting a pc with joypads hooked up via usb and then downloading a bunch of roms of the net is the next best thing. The collectors market has negated an easy or cheap solution to run old consoles as they were intended these days.

Another great (and legit) solution is just getting a Wii and making and buying VC (virtual console) games online. The Wii's already backwardsly compatible with every Gamecube game and most, if not all by now, of the real classic 8bit and 16bit Nintendo games are available for pittance on VC, along with Turbogrfx/Pc Engine, Neo Geo, MegaDrive, Master System and a selection of direct arcade ports.

A Wii with an arcade quality joystick or a classic SNES pad hooked up using an adaptor is your recipe for pure gaming excellence!

Rock On.

i prefer the old games.
i mean i wouldnt want to go out and blow someones head off in real life so why do it in ultra realistic three dimensional graphics in a virtual world.
i mean i can tell the difference between real life and fantasy but the imagery of killing someone makes me feel kind of ill when its so realistic and detailed .
i mean i feel kind of sick when i see someone dying. maybe i am just old fashioned by it was a lot more fun when the violence was a little more pixelated and harder to decipher.
wheres my eight sided dice and my fig i need to roll a high dex roll.
